My 11 and 13yo love it, but I found it inappropriate on multiple levels. Not a fan.

What other shows are similar? I see some recs for Parks and Rec, Community, Man on the Inside, Ted Lasso, etc. but I think those might be too much talking and not enough action to capture his interest. Any ideas?

Looking for something that I would like watching too, not a kids’ show. (No desire to rewatch Lost or Heroes which I think he’d like.)

Modern Family
Abbott Elementary
Young Sheldon
Jane the Virgin

Even though I'm a grownup, I enjoyed watching all of the Avatar the Last Airbender original anime series with my sons. It's been a while, I don't remember how old my sons were...

It has a quirky ensemble cast of strong personalities. And it's about various people trying to do the right thing.

(I didn't like the sequel series - Legend of Korra - so stick only to the original anime. Also, the old Airbender movie and I think also the new live action series were repudiated by the creators.)

This is a great suggestion. I watched it even before I had kids. Thoughtful, spiritual, with humor and heart. It shares a lot with The Good Place.

My kids liked the new Wonder Years a lot as well.

Also, Ted Danson’s new show Man on the Inside, made by the Good Place people.

Agree with others about Abbott, Modern Family, Fresh off the Boat (first couple years), Blackish. Also shows like Amazinf Race, Survivor.

I think 10 is too young for most of these, even Abbott Elementary casually mentions drug use.

PP - What do people think about Malcolm in the Middle? I only caught it once in a while but the episodes I saw were pretty funny.

PP again....thoughts on "Everybody Hates Chris"?

I'm free-associating off "The Wonder Years".

My kids liked The Goldbergs

The Middle. Hands down best family show ever.

I watched the Good Place with my similarly aged son a few years ago. We also liked Brooklyn 99.

Did you wait to talk to your kids about how to cross the street until the first time they did it? It’s crazy how people bake in safety on everything but withhold the information about sex/drugs until it’s imminent. I always found that having conversations around some of these shows was a great way to talk about these topics. Your 10 year old is likely going to be offered a vape or other drugs within the next couple of years.

The Middle was basically my life growing up. It’s freaky.
