Will Wake ever be in the #30s again?

Wake is better for academics; SMU is better for rich.

Neither should be in the top 50.

Guess a few teenagers who were rejected by Wake found this thread. Grownups are above this juvenile banter.

yes, but only if small class sizes, high number of faculty with terminal degrees and a delivering a high quality education are returned as rating factors. If USNW sticks to their DEI based rating factors then it will be a top 70 school sought out by those in the know.

It was overrated in the first place.

Agree with PP. It has nothing to do with academics or professional outcomes.
USNWR rankings are ridiculous.

It wasn’t all that long ago that US News categorized WF as a regional school, and when it first was recategorized as national it was nowhere near the top 30. What goes around comes around.

Honestly, let’s get serious: does anyone really think WF is anywhere near as strong as UVA or UNC? Nope.

There is nothing wrong with DEI being the primary factor in guaging how good a college is. CUNY, Rutgers, UC Merced, Georgia State, Louisville, etc. are going to be recognized as the new powerhouses.

With the new rankings, law schools, medical schools, employers will shift their recruiting to these schools. They were all great to begin with, but now with the rankings they finally get their chance.

This comment is a little strange...nothing strong about any school that has been mentioned except for maybe UNC-CH.

Powerhouse for what? having poor kids with 1090 SAT?

U.S. News made the shift partly in response to criticism that it puts a premium on prestige, filling the top of the list year after year with wealthy, private, highly selective institutions. This year, open-access institutions with more low-income and minority students saw the benefits of the new metrics: the City University of New York’s City College and San Diego State University both jumped by 46 places, for instance, and a few—such as Rutgers University at Camden and Texas A&M University—cracked the top 50 for the first time.

At the same time, some private colleges with little socioeconomic diversity fell in the rankings. American University dropped by 33 places to No. 105, tied with City College and SDSU; Pepperdine University fell by 21 places, and Wake Forest University, formerly in the top 30, fell by 18.

Will Wake ever recover?

Recover from a debatable change in ranking criteria? "Recover" sounds more appropriate if the campus was washed away in a flood.

I do. I have no doubt they learn as much or more.

As strong as UVA, not as strong as UNC which is closer to Michigan or Berkeley for OOS standards

You’re not only bitter, but also not very good with facts. US News moved WF from regional to national university in 1996. It debuted on that list as No. 31, which actually is as close as one can get to T30 without being in it. From 1997 to 2023, WF was ranked in the range of 23-30. That’s incredible stable.

Given how strong the anti DEI movement is at the moment , don’t fall in love with the current rankings.

+1 of course it is, as are hundreds of other colleges. You people are so strange and don't seem to understand US colleges at all.

+1

I entered the school when it was the top regional in the south and remember how big a deal it was when the school entered the national U rankings.
