New to the area. Wondering if public schools will close for the funeral?

Federal Gov closes but not schools.

Any wild guesses on what day it will be held? I assume either this Friday or Monday, 1.6.

I mean, the news said he died today. So maybe give them more than 6 hours or whatever to make plans.

Oddly enough The Onion sums it up well

Thirty-ninth president of the United States, whose four years in office were somehow the least impressive of his entire life. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, prosperous farmer, nuclear engineer, reformist, and governor of Georgia prior to becoming president in 1977, Carter strangely hit the most pronounced lull in his career during his single term as the nation’s chief executive. While his presidency was marked by occasional successes such as the Camp David Accords, Carter’s professional life really took off again when he left office. In these years, he founded a human rights nonprofit that won him the Nobel Peace Prize, went on international diplomatic missions, and became the public face of Habitat for Humanity, worthy accomplishments that made his four years as president of the United States a blip in an otherwise distinguished lifetime of public service.

Sad news. I am sorry he didn't live to see his choice for 47 win.
Rest in Peace. Maybe the best human to have served.

Thursday makes sense because Wednesday is a federal holiday already. This was not an unexpected death. I’m sure the plans are in place. And I’m sure, knowing Carter, it’s not elaborate. Maybe a service in the National Cathedral and a “friends and family” service at his home church in GA where he taught Sunday school and simple burial beside his wife?

One of the few presidents with at least some degree of humanity.

Everyone should read this book Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid

It really is. He just wasn’t someone whose strength lay in telling others what to do. He didn’t wield presidential power well. He was a humble person. What made him special was that he lead from the front, by example. It didn’t translate to the Oval, but was inspirational once he left office.

Hopefully the President-elect keeps silent for once.

Personally, I am thankful he passed while Biden is still president and excluding Trump from speaking!

He was a decent, humane, and kind person. RIP.
