Not applicable for US departures if on a US airline, but would be if on a UK/EU airline.

It's a 13 hour flight so my guess is that OP is sitting on a runway in the Middle East - Qatar, UAE, etc.

OP here. Still stuck.....

Pushing 5 hours on the tarmac. Crew has arrived. Now we have to wait for fuel due to an increased load. Were supposed to leave at 9:30 am.

Pretty sure this is it. OP said 9:30 departure, this is 10:00, and it's on 5 hours and counting delay, and around 13 hours flight time

Did the airline give anyone the option to just take another flight the next day? Bc that sounds TERRIBLE and unacceptable.

OP I had an endless drama on a flight to Asia last summer. Repeated delays, then boarded twice only to have either the flight attendants or the pilots timed out. They finally cancelled the flight after 18 hours at the airport; I tried to get on the same flight the next morning and it was delayed about 12 hours. Even worse, something similar happened on the way back, crew timed out after a wait on the tarmac and we had to wait until the next day to get out. Honestly I still have PTSD, it's just an awful experience.

Just took off, just under 6 hours late.

I think OP may have not reported details like people being able to get off. If they went back to the gate to get new crew, I am almost sure people were offered the chance to get off at that point.

And no getting the next days flight probably not a substantive option this time of year, probably almost every seat on tomorrow's flight already booked.

PP here-Yes and.no- no flights that long from BWI (or DCA obviously). Only a few from IAD, once OP said original flight time, this was only option.

You can search flightstats for all flights departing or arriving at a specific airport. Pretty easy to run down the list and figure out which ones are far enough away to potentially be this long

I was once stuck on a plane in Houston pregnant and with a toddler. We sat for 3 hours. It was a nightmare!

I mean it’s Ethiopian, what were you expecting?

Honestly I’m impressed they were able to get another crew that quickly. I really wonder how…

Ditto. They once kept us on a tarmac for 5 hours in the Caribbean, their check in staff were inefficient, rude and bored all at once. . We now never fly them u less there are no alternatives, which is thankfully rare.
