How many applied? I know of at least two in. They took a lot last year. |
| Deferred EA here. 1540/35/3.95 UW. Well within range (but not a guarantee) in Naviance for our VA public. Wasn’t expecting an acceptance but would have been nice. Probably top choice but ED was too much to commit to financially in fall. Pondering ED2 at this point. |
| Those that say they got in, can you post stats please? |
Same here with similar stats (1510/3.98 uwgpa) from a DC private. Hoping for success in RD. |

Got in last year:
1530 / 3.85 unweighted. Weighted was 4.8 / IB diploma / six years foreign language / 2 years calculus and 1 year statistics / two sports / went to three recruiting events / zoom calls / I think he had some sort of contact with them every 1-3 months starting sophomore year |
What does recruiting event mean? My kid is a junior in high school. I am not sure how to do this |
I am confused as well…you are either recruited or you are not. A recruiting “event” usually means a prospect camp in the sport…but you only go to three of you decide to start like freshman year. I guess it helps the coach knows you are interested, but they don’t seriously consider you for athletic recruiting until junior year…and they don’t care if that is the first time you attend a camp if they want you on the team and you agree to ED once you are told you have a slot. |
Yeah.i heard it was pretty much a disaster. I guess Chicago doesn't accept all full-pay applicants, after all. |
So finances changed in 2 months? This board would have consistently told you EA is a dead end; ED2 will now be a tougher admit than ED1. |
Information sessions. Presentations by admissions officers. Went to one at a hotel downtown. There was one once in Tysons area. They were at a college fair in Montgomery County. They sometimes have online pesentations on different subjects. My kid signed the "attendance / interest" sheet a lot. I am guessing that was noticed? |
If you can't commit financially, don't do it. Your kid will get merit at other schools. |
Pondering. Noir decided for the reason you state. Other considerations evolving besides finances. |
| So if a kid who got deferred chooses to go with RD and not ED2, are the chances pretty much zero? Know of anyone who got in thru RD after getting deferred in EA? |
| Bump |
That’s about right. UChicago ED2 is already pretty tough because a bunch of kids who applied to HYPMS in the first round end up applying. |
