So how many children are in your child's class in a Fairfax County school?

Anonymous
Reston schools are bad compared to McLean even if there are 2.5 extra kids per class. Seriously.

Elistist swine!

Compared to what ? Try living in DC somewhere besides upper NW and you would be thankful for Reston schools in comparison...

22:51, PP here. Where's your objective evidence? Which schools are you referring to?
My friend in Chicago who is considering a move to this area doesn't have $2 million+ to live off of Spring Hill Rd. Her husband doesn't work for BigLawMassiveEgos. She works for a NGO.
Even if they purchased a fixer-upper in the Franklin Sherman ES district (for $650,000 no doubt) it would be a strech. Please be aware that for some people McLean is utterly out of the question.

And not to pile on, but NP here and I think it is fair to point out that the high income levels of McLean account for the perceived "betterness" of McLean schools rather than the teaching quality of the schools. Children who have had every advantage ... good nutrition, stable homelife, English spoken in the home, enrichment out the wazoo, and yes, good genetics from high achieving, go getter parents... tend to do well in school. Period. It says nothing bad about Reston schools and the differences between the two areas are probably pretty minimal when comparing to a school in Anacostia.

Then if it's not about the schools, then it could be about your child's peers....who may not have every advantage, having dinner at mickey D's or a bag of chips, unstable homelife, english not spoken at home, no enrichment/homework help at home, etc.

Nothing wrong with diversity, but even the best teachers can get distracted by lower performing students and that is where your kid loses out.

You are the worst kind of ass. And a big reason I refuse to move to area like McLean or Bethesda. There is no way I want my kids growing up with this type of mindset. Diversity doesn't automatically mean lower performing, unstable home life, kids. And it doesn't bother me in the least that my kids go to school with someone that eats chips.

I guess you haven't been paying attention to the news where almost every county in this area and the US is trying to get black and hispanic test scores up to the level of white and asian kids.

No sense arguing. I really rather not have the asses realizing there are good places to live outside of McLean. Don't want them moving near me and assing up the rest of the county.

You've cornered the market on assing up.

Again, do yourself a favor and look at the test scores.

Exactly! They can rationalize keeping their kids away from the Blacks and Hispanics because they're low performing, chip eaters all they want.

You can't rationalize NOT keeping them away either.

What if the chip-eaters are munching on organic chips lightly fried in olive oil and sold at Whole Foods or Wegmans??? THEN can they join your precious child's lunch table??? Geez.
