| I cook mine in the crockpot and it turns out great. I put in a cup or two of water, wrap the ham in foil and cook on low for a few hours. The one from Safeway had the carve marks to make it easier to slice. You can wrap carrots in foil and cook them, potatoes and green beans in the same crockpot. Very easy/tastes great. |
| ^They are super cheap at Safeway during thee holidays with the Safeway card. |
| Ham from Safeway? I would never serve that. |

I can't believe two things:
#1 - you don't know about ham #2 - you can't shop around for ham wait one more: #3 - You don't know that stores have different prices |
Honey Baked ham store is also $100 for 8-9 lb |
| Get a fully cooked spiral sliced, bone-in half ham from Costco. Put in a roasting pan and stud the skin with whole cloves. In a small bowl, mix 1/4 cup of yellow mustard, 2 tbsp dark brown sugar, 1/4 cup of orange marmalade and stir until blended. Spread over skin of ham and warm in oven according to package directions on ham. Length of time is based on weight of ham. Enjoy! Serve on hot biscuits. |
| We ordered from the organic butcher in Mclean. cheaper than honey baked ham, probably just as yummy. |
OP can do research, but grocery store ads don’t tell you how it’s going to taste or which less expensive hams are actually good. What’s strange about getting suggestions from people who have years of experience buying hams? When I was a kid, the company my mom worked for gave beautiful hams to their employees every Christmas. They even gave them out to retired employees — and they’re not even in the food or hospitality industry! Because of that, I’m familiar with eating ham, but not buying it. I was interested in responses. I’ve bought Honey Baked before because that’s easy, but this year I have a guest who is diabetic and would appreciate a ham without a sweet glaze. |
That's because their swine have a luxurious life and no harsh conditions |
I could have written this! Honeybaked hams are expensive and overrated. Costco or Sam's is the way to go. I just got a 2 9 pound hams from Sam's for a neighborhood Christmas party for $25 each and everyone raved about it. The marmalade recipe is similar to one I've had forever that was from the Washington Post (I think) called "Monty's Ham." The glaze that comes with the ham is pretty good, too, if you want it to be simple. |
In that case, definitely go to Costco or Sam's and skip the glaze. |
| Depends on the store and they style. No one can possibly be as good as google or visiting stores. |
You beat me to it. 😉 Go to Costco, get whatever they have. Don’t over think it. |
|
I’ve never been able to tell the difference between any precooked spiral ham.
OP if you really want to save money on stuff like this, do you know anyone with a business license? If you can shop at Restaurant Depot, it’s really great for buying meat. |
I think the hams are like, impregnated with sugar. I’m sure not doing a glaze will help a little. |
