What about this is a troll post? I posted this and this is totally accurate and my opinion based on how much of the season was cancelled. |
| Just be careful with Super Y / USL if you make nationals — some clubs will not take the players who played all summer and qualified but instead swap out and take their ECNL team to play at nationals leaving the players who actually played through the summer high and dry. |
Whoa, that sucks! Didn't see that coming, but it makes sense. |
No way. You played all summer and they won’t let you go to nationals? Which club did that? |
We have gone and also skipped it. Nationals is this coming weekend. Many families are not looking forward to traveling to Tampa and missing school, just to get eliminated in the group stage. It’s basically single elimination, with 4 groups of 4 teams each, then semifinals and finals. |
| and one game a day so the trip drags on forever. |
| 2011g went and won 2 years ago. It definitely drags on for a full 5 days. Very expensive. |
No the PP, but the rules say (or at least used to say as of last year) that clubs are only required to roster 25% of the team that played during the summer for the Finals in Tampa. It's conceivable that a team takes only 4 or 5 of their summer players to Nationals. Totally sucks, but that is permissible per the rules. |

Many of the people on this forum HATE SOCCER.
It's to hot/to many weak players how dare my kid share the pitch with them... Super Y can be fun it is a way of getting organized extra touches and keeping your kid active. Daughter enjoyed last year (we do not live in DC) including her were 5 academy kids on the team mixed with local kids. They had fun and showed up to their academy pre season in good shape. This year we are going away for a week so will miss a practice or two, is no big deal! |
| My son did it and liked it, but he has pretty good tolerance for the heat. For kids who are on the cusp (in the pool of kids who may move up to a higher team), I think it is a good opportunity to get to know another coach and different players. For kids already on the team where they want to be, or solidly placed where they are, unless you really want to do the activity, I would take a pass. |
Every club does this. |
Many of the coaches who coach Super Y are third or fourth team coaches. You will NEVER see a top team coach waste time with super y. |
Club takes larger roster 20++ for Super Y due to vacations and all in the summer but if you make nationals, you can only dress 18/ game so I think it's better to cut some kids than be there and not play. I've only seen our club added 1-2 player that weren't on the original roster in the last few years. |
Not true in our experience. Likely depends on the club. |
| It's summer soccer league. Good way to play with other players and coaches. The ROI interpretation is subjective, I don't believe in $7 coffees but I'm sure the folks saying it's a waste of money is buying starbucks daily. |
