The 14 billionaires in Trump’s plutocratic administration

Imagine being so dumb that you vote for a bunch of elite, connected billionaire oligarchs thinking you are "anti-establishment" and "fighting for the little guy."

But among US presidents, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, and JFK were all incredibly wealthy men when they took office.

There's an assumption in American politics that the super rich aren't beholden to special interests. Barack Obama and Bill Clinton had fairly normal finances when they were elected. Today, Obama and Clinton are among the richest men in America. They are each worth more than a quarter billion dollars - all of it "earned" when they left office.

Who really is more corrupt? The person that comes in to power rich, or the person that leaves it super rich?

But at least they understood where regular people were coming from when they started their Presidency. People who have been rich all their lives really don’t know what it’s like to live in the real world.

What are your sources? This article says Obama is worth 70 mill. Still a lot but nowhere near the “quarter billion” you mentioned.

Also, I don’t know why you have quotes around earned. Are you implying that he is corrupt? He earned it the following way:

“Barack Obama’s net worth in 2024 comes from various sources. These include his presidential salary and pension, book deals, podcast deals, Netflix deals, speaking engagements, and real estate investments.”

“For his book “For A Promised Land,” released in November 2020, Obama secured a $65 million deal with Penguin Random House, which also included a memoir by Michelle Obama. The book sold 3.3 million copies in its first month, becoming a top-selling political memoir.”

And yet, when Billy Long was nominated to lead IRS - as normal a guy as ever there was - DCUM's finest turned their noses up at him immediately. You people know all about 'dumb,' not to mention, hypocritical.

Yup, because they live in the DMV and are officially coastal elites - but only if they vote Dem.

Oh sorry, was his year of tax advising enough experience to run the IRS? We are such hypocrites, especially because a coastal elite with 3 degrees is running it, so the little people should have a chance.

Because he’s not remotely qualified for the position. The current IRS Commissioner, who has several years remaining on his term, spent seven months as Acting Commissioner and was Controller of OMB for years, plus many years in federal government before that. He has three relevant degrees. Billy Long is a realtor with some college who manages to keep getting himself elected in a gerrymandered ruby red district and loves Trump. Those aren’t qualifications.

When has Billy Long fought for the little guy?

The point is that he isn't an "elite, connected billionaire oligarch." But do keep moving those goalposts.

Wikipedia for richest presidents in 2022 dollars. It has Obama at $250,000,000. And Bill Clinton at $241,000,000. Only Trump, George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson were richer, comparatively.

But I do agree that is useful for presidents and cabinet members to have a real world, middle class or working class background. Which both Obama and Bill Clinton have. That doesn't mean they are immune from corruption. Jimmy Carter chose his way; and the Obamas and Clintons chose their way.

So now being qualified is moving the goalpost? Geez we always that was part of the goal.

He lied about his net worth and worked the PR angle to get it reported he had a lot of money he didn’t have.

He probably wasn’t when he ran the first time. But he definitely is now. He used the presidency to grift at a massive scale. The Truth Social grift alone makes him a billionaire.
