Agree with this list more than the original |
I just looked up UVA's CDS and 50% submitted SAT and 16% submitted ACT. So 66% |
Not true. UVA hasn't released 2024-2025 common data set. SCHEV data is 2024-2025. |
If you want to use year old data that's fine but I think most recent is most relevant. |
CDS was 23-24. Didn't realize SCHEV was this year |
| Glad to see UDel is finally making some progress on DCUM! Very underrated school. Also GWU - totally overrated - no way that’s a B these days. |
| Where is this list/data from? And what is does Opportunity school mean? |
OP's self-made list. PC way to refer to those schools. |
Without including the percentage submitting standardized scores, it doesn't mean very much. |
| What kind of bubble do you people live in. The only needle-moving school in the DMV is the USNA. That’s it, the full list. Hopkins, Georgetown, and UVA are fine, but outside of this bubble, nobody GAF about any of them. |
+1 |
What's your point? This is a DMVer site. Just because outsiders enter dcum doesn't mean we have to pop our bubble. |
| What is USNA? |
Disagree about JHU. It's globally known for med school. |
I don't know what "opportunity" school means to the OP in general, but I like the concept of schools with easier admissions but strong outcomes. Though I generally don't guide my choices by magazine rankings, I think there's a lot to learn from them if you understand their criteria and compare it to your own. And I remember being very surprised that in the WSJ ranking, which heavily values ROI, the DMV schools in the top 40 were: Virginia Tech (19), Loyola Maryland (23), UDelaware (26), UVA (33), Towson (40). I think this makes Loyola MD, U Delaware, and Towson really interesting for this area - schools with relatively easy admission but whose graduates seem to do well. Personally, I think Delaware is majorly undervalued due to the sports not being as strong as some of the other flagships. And while, sure, sports add to the college experience, I think they are overvalued by prospective students. |
