You want traditional? Here it is:
Finely chopped onion, sauteed in butter. Frozen Green beans (I prefer haricot green beans), let thaw at least partially French's fried onions Can of (traditional) Campbell's cream of mushroom soup Mix together the onions, green beans, soup, some of the fried onions, salt and pepper, and a small shake of garlic granules. I usually add a bit of milk or cream for consistency. Place in a buttered casserole dish. Bake in a 350 oven for about 20 minutes. I bake until it has bubbled around the edges for about 10 minutes. Add fried onions to the top as you like (I add sparingly). Bake another 5 minutes or so. |
I am looking at the recipe right now on the can of French fried onions (which I am using in a different dish). There is no regular onion in the traditional green bean casserole recipe. That would make it pretty onion-y. |
| I have made it from scratch and even then it was only meh for a lot of work. For Thanksgiving, you should always play it safe on the classics that people are expecting but sticking with the can. Same goes for pumpkin pie. |
| make sure you save some of the onions for end for extra crunch because often it gets too mixed. Love this casserole and who cares that it isn’t healthy. Feels like home!! |
Sorry - I wasn't clear. I don't use a lot of the French's onions. Rely more on sauteed fresh onion. I know it's too late now, but onion quantity would be according to taste. |
