The developers are well-funded and are behind most of the criticism of Elrich because he won't just blindly give them whatever they want. This article is helpful reading about their propaganda campaigns:

Like Elrich because he went out of his way to support your community in some way when other councilmembers ignored them. And appreciate that he’s straightforward, says what he means and does what he says.

Don’t like Elrich because he’s never met a tax he didn’t like and don’t like some of the things he says.

Then there are two radical fringe groups, DSA and GGW, battling it out.

Ding, ding. That is exactly the point. The people with the strongest feelings about Elrich are hyper online people that the average county resident has never heard of nor cares about.

They don’t or care about the NIMBY insults. In fact, Riemer and GGW folks got a CA billionaire to drop millions in the last race on TV ads calling him an NIMBY and he was still elected. On the flip side, no one cares about DSA either nor whether he is a socialist or not.

Unfortunately both groups are over represented online.
