op. I'll tell you who's bringing it. You all are bringing it.
Clicking on every link. I feel so seen and so grateful. If we were shopping in real life I'd buy you lattes and biscottis. Going to sleep on this, including on budget, which I hadn't quite named for myself. In the meantime, thank you all. You rock. |

I second La double j but it has never worked for me in practice.
The place for expensive fabulous caftans is Net A Porter. Just type in Caftan or look at Dima Ayad, Pucci, taller marmo. |
Ps IMO the key to the voluminous evening caftan is to spend enough that the fabric is wonderful and to have very big hair or very sleek hair, but not in between. And then you just have to own it. I always have fun on a caftan night. It has become my wedding uniform. I’m not religious or conservative at all, but it turns out covered up and flowy makes me the happiest party goer. |

Look at the brand Busayo for Nigerian American couture.
Also I am Indian - this is a perfect application for saris, but I am not skilled in draping one. You can find prestitched saris online that just need to be pulled on like a dress. |

op again.
What is the right length for a caftan? Where should it fall on the leg to look elegant and not like a muumuu? And does a caftan require heels? (I have fat feet and teeter like a child playing dress-up on most heels. 2.5” wedge or chunky heel is my upper limit) Event is on the other side of country, so travel is involved. I arrive late the night before, so if wrinkly fabric I would need to steam. One splurge item I do own — found it at a consignment store in Boston and went for it — is this ankle length farm rio rainbow striped sweater: https://posh.mk/4hDuIKkUxOb could potentially wear this over something sleek and dark? Would I feel kooky/frumpy or casually stylish? (Note there is no black on the sweater — only navy). Woke up a little more comfortable spending a bit of money though would love to keep in the three-digit range including shoes/bag/etc. Going to click some more links. Y’all are beautiful. |

Just want to say you're a great writer, OP! I'm loving people's suggestions in this thread, and I hope you have a great time at the event. That ex had better give you some good vibes (that you can lean into or walk away from, as you like).
I don't love that Farm Rio sweater, that said. I think it'd be great at the right time, but it feels a little this side of kooky for an event where you want to look hot in front of an ex. |
I'm petite and have a tough time pulling off La DoubleJ dresses, but the pants are amazing----great fit and fun prints. I wore a pair last weekend with a plain silk button-down, and several strangers complimented me on them. |

I have the 100$ version of this:

This is really great! Unusual but not weird. |
Thank you for saying that about the sweater. I appreciate the honesty. I don't want to look like a kook! |
Wow! That's fantastic |
+1 That dress is great. Whole site looks interesting. |
+1 Love that dress. |
