I have an important event coming up. Artsy. Not black tie. I need to bring it.
There will be photos. Lots of young beautiful people. At least one ex. I'm 50+, size 12-ish, broad-shouldered, generally proportional but like many women my age who have had multiple kids, my belly is soft, my waist a mere memory. I want to look my age but the most fabulous, confident version of my age. I would love to wear something with a bit of pop. Like...maybe a gorgeously tailored satin suit (but do you need to be rail thin to wear one?). Or a vintage kaftan (but will I look like a lunatic grandma?). Or even some shimmery Studio-54-circa-1972 Lurex-knit black floor length thing (but will that show off every lump and bump?). I appreciate maxi dresses and stretch and the color black. Vintage is fab, but it's hard to find vintage dresses in my size. I've never found a wrap dress that looks good on me. I can do spanx if I need to, but I'm not spanxy by nature. Seriously, though. I need to bring it. But what is the it? And where do I go to find it? |
| I’m in a similar situation and it’s hard. I’m looking at black pants and a top but I’ve been striking out |

Try looking for ideas on Thredup.
Also go shopping and try on crazy things until you understand your body type. Any mall with a decent upscale department store will do. |
| Budget? If spendy, look at La DoubleJ. |

I’m not sure, OP, except I do think we could be great friends.
Actually now that I think about it I have friend who has very much this style - artsy, striking, her best self. She finds a lot of pieces at consignment shops, estate sales, and eBay. |

Can you do something solid color matchy matchy? Then decorate with a different colored shoe and accessories? Also I saw a woman with black/greyish ray ban shaped regular glasses, plain silver hoops then a ton of silver various silver pendant necklaces on a black turtleneck, midi length black pleated skirt, long black sweater coat and 1 inch heeled loafers and it really looked nice |
This whole website is good stuff |
