What are your expectations for the newly elected BOE members: Montoya, Zimmerman, Stewart? Along with remaining BOE members, what do you think the new Board's priorities need to be?

School safety and security?
More or better tech course offerings?
Later school start times?
Four day week school with one day for check-ins, as happened during virtual learning?

This, folks, is why friends don't let friends vote MCEA. We're going to be hearing nutty ideas like 4 day schools weeks and later bell times for the next four years. And we're going to have to listen to complaints about safety/security while any plausible proposal is accused of being racist.

This person is making stuff up to cause trouble. MCEA isn't asking for this stuff.

They have before. They were behind 4-day school weeks before. Why wouldn't you expect them to push for something similar if given the chance?

During pandemic virtual classes only.

Moving start times years ago cost a lot of money, aren't you all always complaining about MCPS wasting money? Start times won't get any later. There aren't even enough bus drivers as is.

It wasn't limited to just when classes were virtual. Why wouldn't you expect them to want to bring it back?

They can't completely bring it back immediately because of state law, but they could try to add a bunch of early release days.

That ultimately depends on your position.

And you don't always get to pick your WFH days. They typically don't let everyone work from home on the same day.

And who cares about the wage workers, right? They shouldn't have had kids to begin with.

Most people are not feds and it will probably change soon.

Once we send back the poor illegals with hourly jobs there won't be a problem anymore.

Every statement was true. 4 day weeks were not limited to virtual classes. Maryland law requires 180 school days, and MSDE does not allow "asynchronous" virtual days (i.e., days off with homework) to count as a virtual day. That leaves early release days. When MCEA talks about getting more prep time, they're effectively adovcating for early release days, as they're not trying to add more service days.

You claimed 4 days/week was: "During pandemic virtual classes only."

That was false, which you seem to be acknowledging now. 4 days/week continued beyond that.

It couldn't go into fall 2021 because state law didn't allow it. MCEA didn't concede- they simply didn't have a choice.

And recall they were quite upset when schools remained open that year.

Or, they could just be asking for one more free period a day.
