The whole list is on the website now:

What do the numbers in parentheses mean?

Why was it announced so early? Usually it's mid-December. What caused the change?

New superintendent, new procedures?

UMBC is not even IN MoCo. Ridiculous to drag families all the way up there.

On the field/in the stadium at the local school would be fine. Sorry if they can’t hand out 12 tickets per family.

But clearly this senior’s parent’s opinion doesn’t matter to the decision makers.

DAR and UMD are not even IN MoCo either.

Were you not asked? Our school asked for opinions. I’m not sure if they really use the feedback but they do ask for it.

I did have a child also graduate last year at UMBC and it was totally fine. I’m not sure why everyone is so against it. It’s one day- a celebratory one at that. Even if it takes a little extra driving, isn’t seeing your child graduate worth it???

The dates used to be announced in the summer. Last year when they were not announced until December, many charter bus companies were already sold out, making a very challenging to find arrangements for staff, band, etc.

Looks like WJ and Blair are going to graduate at the Xfinity Center in UMD, although I expect many people to slander UMD as much as they do with UMBC. Either way, they both probably suck.

Have all the schools graduate the school fields or any of the 3 campuses at MC.

I'm not looking forward to going back to UMBC as a parent of a kid who graduated from Rockville this year. The venue change was disappointing for most parents especially considering DAR was already a decent venue for the school if you consider it's very small size + RHS was the smallest school that graduated at UMBC this year.

Clarksburg parent here, not happy with the change at UMBC. MSM was already the closest we had and home field would be a bad idea for us. Plus, MSM was already big enough for us but UMBC? Seriously?

Ours is at DAR, and I’m fine with that. We’re experienced at navigating DC, and don’t have a huge number of family members clamoring to sit through the tedium of a high school graduation. I can see how others might not be happy with it, but you can’t please everyone. At least it’s a nice venue, not a vast concrete arena like the one I graduated in (not MCPS).

But I’m curious: who were the decision-makers this year? I’d understood in the past that it was up to the individual schools, and ours had always at least nominally sought opinions from seniors and their families. But this year the announcement just… appeared.

Was it a central office decision this year, or did schools still have the final say? And are schools still paying for the venue and associated expenses?

Yes, right by the white house, may w you can invite that leader-elect and family since you don't have a huge number of family members...

Is MC big enough for all schools to graduate at? If so, then MCPS should let all the schools graduate at any of the MC campuses.

Outdoors maybe, but they don't have a large enough indoor space.
