As always, UMBC getting flamed by MCPS parents.

My DD graduated at UMBC this past year. I’m hoping my younger one also has this location for graduation. It was great. I really don’t understand why people get all worked up about one single day.

UMBC was by far the easiest graduation to attend and I've been to DAR twice and UMD several years ago. It may be further mileage wise but shorter time wise and much less stressful.

If people dont like DAR or UMBC, have the graduations be at MC.

Check last year's thread on the same discussion about how UMBC shouldn't be an option, it's too far, keep it in the county etc..

Plenty if seats and parking at UMBC

My kid from Rockville is graduating this year and I thought the graduation video from last year from the school seemed really mediocre. I thought the commencement speaker's speech was really forgettable and mediocre and one of the roll callers for the graduates I think got bothered with one of the families of their graduate just repeatedly yelling their name and screaming.

I had 2 kids from CB graduate at MSM, and now hearing that my youngest son is going to graduate at the UMBC arena, I have mixed thoughts in general about UMBC even being a location for graduation.

This is all about funding. If you don’t like UMBC as an option, contin ue the conversation with your school and MCPS.

Transparency on this issue would clear up a lot of questions.

The way the current BOE is handling with graduation venues already has mixed views. First they were already setting up UMBC as a more common graduation and now they're getting the UMD campus to return back to hosting graduations before COVID hit. I wonder how MCPS parents are going to feel about UMD now.

Hate to break it, but the BOE and principal of any MCPS high school probably won't care. At my kids school, it was the students to select the graduation venue so it's not the principal or BOE's fault that they're getting involved with.
