Then they sent Richie Torres to Michigan to brag that the campaign hadn't made any compromises to Arabs in Michigan in order to get them to vote for Harris.

I am not sure that the Harris campaign understand how many Arab-Americans in Michigan have roots in southern Lebanon. As bad as things were because of Gaza, they have gotten exponentially worse. I have always thought that Harris would win this election and win it easily. But, if she loses, it will because of their treatment of Arab and Muslim Americans and that is completely self-inflicted.

This was abysmally stupid. Just breathtakingly tone deaf.

I cannot even wrap my head around this. Its inconceivable.

The genocide in Gaza and Lebanon was their key issue. They felt marganlized and demunized by Biden adminstration.

Many of the panelists said they will vote for Jill Stein. Her support is bigger than polls indicate.

Voting for your own deportation is quite the message.

You are either admitting that non-citizens vote in federal elections or are ignorant that only US Citizens can vote in federal elections.

Which is it?

Or C) assuming Muslims aren't natural born US citizens.

Voting for Stein is absurd. Trump is not pro-Muslim. It sad their single issue is what’s happening in the Middle East instead of shoring up democracy here.

@Jeff

I don't disagree with you, but perhaps they are making a calculation that they can gather more IND/R/Never Trumpers to make up for it, both in Michigan and elsewhere?

I know firsthand that a lot of the MI Gaza protestors from the spring are voting for Harris because they know the alternative is worse.

There is a reason Trump told Netanyahu to hold out. Just like Nixon and Vietnam, Reagan and the Iran Hostages and Trump with the immigration bill, Trump wanted this to still be an issue for just this purpose.

I still think she’s going to win Michigan but I agree that bringing Ritchie Torres there was really weird.

To understand why Muslims in Michigan are moving away from Harris, see the video above. It's not just about this election alone but thinking long term about the two party system.

The assumption that Trump will be worse for Gaza is not necessarily true and just a fear mongering tactic by the democrats

Democracy here is what is supporting the terrible situation in the Middle East. I have said it before, but having family members blown up is not remotely similar to arguing about marginal tax rates. It is not a political difference.

Let's be clear, nobody owes Kamala Harris anything. It is her job to earn votes. She is doing noting to earn these votes now. Don't blame the voters, blame the candidate.

This is the only possible explanation for the Harris campaign's behavior. I am really worried that they have miscalculated.

Your suggestion that Arabs and Muslims in Michigan are not informed about what is happening Gaza and southern Lebanon is insulting. They are probably better informed than you.

When people's families are killed, their homes are destroyed, and hundreds of thousands of people are turned into refugees, it is difficult to convince them to vote for those who are funding and supplying the killing and destruction.

Just an aside, aren't there a large number of Christian Arabs in Michigan?

DP: This is no longer just about Gaza. Israel is attacking Lebanon now as well. A lot of Michigan's Arab population is Lebanese (and not necessarily Muslim).

I think Jeff is onto something.

There are also a lot of Jewish people in Michigan.

How can you type this with a straight face. Trump has said Natanyahu needs to "finish the job" and "push the Palestinians into the sea" while also extolling that Jared has the rights to develop the beachfront property there.

It’s not just the Middle East issues. It’s the Detroit-based auto industry is slumping and gutting jobs; shipping white collar jobs overseas, shipping more factories to Mexico and China. The battery plants are owned by Chinese, taking billions in subsidies. It’s immigration. It’s brain drain (EVERYONE’s kids go to college and immediately flee the state). And then coastal elastic millionaires trying to meme Detroit into this wonderful place. It generates laughter from people who actually live in the region and know Detroit is a corrupt and lawless hellhole.

Not saying Trump is the answer but I am saying the last 3.5 years have not been good for Michigan residents.
