In HS, apparently donor kids get the leg up. In public high schools, kids with difficult parents who complain all the time get the leg up (very toxic). |
Tear down the walls |
Anywhere you go, the kid who TRAINS PRIVATELY with the coach gets the leg up. Sickening. |
Man this is too often true. People often take "daddy ball" to mean just the coach's kid and assume any team where 4 or 5 kids get preference isn't a "daddy ball" team, missing the entire friend/favored kid aspect. And yes, sometimes coaches really do just favor the better kids or the kids with better attitudes, and sometimes it's a mix of favoring kids who are legitimately good and kids who are friends with the coaches' kids. But youth coaches are human and there's really too much unfair favoritism. |
Coaches would probably argue that shows the kid has a passion for the sport, no? |
In other words, if you have a regular kid who doesn’t do private training with the coaches, and you don’t donate (in private schools) or complain to everyone (in public schools), your kid isn’t going to be on the roster.
But it’s ok, in the long run, your kid is learning more than the kid of the lawn mower parents. That kid learns that they can’t do it on their own. And they probably can’t. |
Ummm … sure. Find another trainer then. Conflict of interest. |
Take up an individual sport then |
Swimming and track have to be the most fair. Can’t argue with a stopwatch. |
Let’s not forget favoritism toward the managers kid. (I’m a little more forgiving of that though as the managers put in long, thankless hours.) |
All sports are great, as long as you understand what you’re up against. You must assume it won’t be fair. It’s hard to watch your kid on the receiving end of the unfairness though. |
Not at our huge publics where 100s of kids try out. It’s almost all politics when so many kids are equally talented, travel players. Don’t kid yourself about that one. |
Absolutely and not only travel, but which particular travel teams, at least at our large high school, particularly for baseball and softball. |
You parents should just STFU because YOU signed up your kids for this. Take up an individual sport if you do not like it because it will never change. |
