Ozempic

As I said, I have an exercise and diet plan in place, but I wanted to use this in combination to jump start the weight loss process because I am at the point where I am feeling the inflammation and I need relief. A local medspa will write you a prescription for the name brand medication which you can fill at any pharmacy provided you can find it. Your insurance will probably not cover the medication and you will probably have to pay out of pocket for that name brand medication - some providers provide coupons but the cost will still be around $600.

If you go the online route, those services will likely prescribe you compounded medication. That is essentially the same medication but it is mixed by a compounding pharmacist and doesn’t come in the pen that the brand name version does. It seems that some compounding pharmacies are more trustworthy than others so you are taking a gamble.

OP again. Thanks for the information. I luckily do not have high blood pressure, or another chronic condition, other than a little arthritis. I don’t mind paying out of pocket. In regards to the medspa, do you mean they would give you ozempic or something similar? I’ve seen a few in bethesda that offer semaglutide. Is this just wegovy? And which medspa is most trustworthy? I’ve never been to one. Thanks again.

Semaglutide is the chemical (I don't want to say "generic" because that's confusing). Ozempic and Wegovy are different brand names for the same semaglutide. They are packaged differently and Ozempic is for diabetics and pre-diabetics while Wegovy is for weight loss, but chemically they are the same.

Thanks for the explanation! What are some more trustworthy/reputable medspas around Bethesda?

I need to shed some pounds and just want to take it for a few months to see if it will work along with my exercise and diet changes. I consulted my general practitioner, but she said I didn’t qualify. Clearly, people are getting it everywhere without being obese, so how? And no, this is not a troll post. I’m just hate carrying this excess weight around and am desperate to look like myself again. Thanks in advance.

Probably a troll post-but Ozympic is for diabetes. Why did your dr say you don't qualify? What is your BMI?

Yes! You can find a great local provider who will prescribe it to you. Look around for a weight management specialist who can guide you through the process. I have an amazing doctor in Bethesda, who did everything for me, including running all of my blood work, presenting all of my different options and helping me figure out the best next steps for myself.
If you want to do it on your own, you would reach out to an online provider like join Fridays or one like that. They have online telehealth specialists that can prescribe you compounded semaglutide. Educate yourself on how to do it and how to prepare yourself for success. I spent a long time educating myself and knew it was the right fit for me because my BMI was 30. Unbeknownst to me, I also had become prediabetic and my blood sugar A1c was extremely high. I just know I didn’t feel right. I did start the medication tirzepatide at the very low dose 2.5 and have stayed there for nine weeks and lost 17 pounds. Very few side effects too! You really have to educate yourself on taking fiber, implementing tons of new lifestyle choices, which I already had , hydrating with electrolytes and being sure you’re doing the right way. I eat 1400 calories a day and hit 100 grams of protein. Exercise daily and strength train. You can find great success on this and I believe that you can wean off of it successfully as well. If you really do want brand name medication, you’re going to need someone that can prescribe Wegovy and pay out-of-pocket or see if your insurance will cover it . I weighed 175 want to get back to my best 145. Good luck!!!

Best bet is to use one of the online docs and lie about your weight so that you "qualify."

You actually don’t even need to lie about your weight. I weighed 175 and was a size 10 in jeans and in general look cute enough. Was pretty shocked to discover that I had a BMI that put me in the obese range and was prediabetic. So thankful I started this treatment!

DO IT!! Best decision I’ve made in years! Mine is from a nurse practitioner who ran all of my bloodwork and is amazing and yes, she also provides Botox and filler and all sorts of different things and guess what? She’s amazing. The compounded stuff that you get at those places is exactly the same, and many of them Can actually prescribe wegovy if you want to pay that price.

Most are probably using an online provider/doctor. Examples of more reputable companies are Henry Meds, Hims Hers or IVIM. Cost is about $300 per month. This is for compound.

You're probably better off just shedding the weight with diet and exercise.

My friends who did Ozempic to lose a bit of weight, like before weddings, for a big trip, after having kids, etc. all put it back on once they stopped.

Ozempic slows your digestion so you feel full longer. It doesn't do anything to cure the underlying issues of not eating the correct foods or exercising. So, you stop the shot and the weight comes right back plus some.

HERS! I get mine for $199/month after I switched jobs and my new insurance doesn't cover these drugs anymore.

McLean Dermatology has it, they give the shots on site. I’ve seen signs in the waiting room.
