either way, what OP paid for is not available. she should cancel. |
We had a host who had a plumbing issue about 2 weeks before we arrived. Wasn't a bait and switch - just couldn't host us and canceled the booking. We reached out to Airbnb because it was peak summer and options were very sparse- there was literally nothing even close to comparable within 5 miles for our dates on Airbnb. I pushed hard and got them to give us an extra $75/day in cash beyond the refund amount, to cover some of the difference of the cost of the closest available hotel option. OP I would go a similar route with Airbnb if you are getting bad vibes about this, or the alternative is seemingly perfectly fine (good reviews, etc) but not acceptable to you. |

Can they just move you to a different room or upgrade you to a suite at the same property?
Oh wait, that’s a hotel cause when you book at a hotel there are options. |
Super unhelpful response. Many people book airbnbs because hotels don't work well for families with teens or large groups. I much prefer airbnbs to hotels. And there are not always options at hotels when they're really booked up. |
Good idea! Do this OP and report back! |
| Why are you using AirBnB? You know by just signing up you forfeit your legal rights? Read the fine print. |
Quite you aren't helping. Either get a full refund and book somewhere else or take a substantial refund for the smaller place. |
| Yes op, check other options. Tell her thank you but no thank you and cancel through Airbnb. With your family set up, it just won’t work. Who will sleep on the couch? Your mother? It’s not practical. Was the original place a 3 bedroom? Insist on that, but also given the short timeline I’d just tell her the options don’t work, and cancel through Airbnb. These practices are not acceptable. The issue is not that the AC broke, that happens but that the offered alternative is different from what you booked. |
Actually if you create an account, they have the legal right to your first born. Prima nocta I think it's called. |
+1 Happens in Aruba all the time g er your money bad don’t ever air b and b |
| Just cancel. |
| I would not really care what the person's issue is. It's not my problem and I'd be worried they are trying to scam me. I'd get a refund and book something else entirely. |

OP here. The host provided us with three other options that are fairly equivalent to our original booking and let us choose which one. If we would have booked one of the other places originally, the cost would have been almost exactly the same. Three bedroom, three bath, with balcony, equipped kitchen, etc.
I don't know. The unit looks fine. The location isn't quite as good but it's not bad. Still ocean front. We go with Airbnbs on occasion because we don't like to eat breakfast out and like to pack lunch. We also like to do laundry in the unit and we really want multiple bathrooms. |
If you can confirm that they actually have the new unit (Airbnb listing is active, good reviews, pics, etc), I'd say you are fine, assuming the host has a long history they would want to maintain. |
Even on the continental US you can wait 2-3 weeks for a part. I'd cancel and get hotel rooms. |
