Am I the only one who thinks that the Tea Party guidlines for DC are actually accurate?

Clueless here--what "guidelines" are you talking about? Could someone please post a link?

Yes, OP, you are the only one.

The are parts of DC that I would only go if I had an armed escort. If you don't agree, then go to some of these areas at night, especially if you are white.

No.

Really? You'd feel completely comfortable wondering around Capitol Heights metro station after hours? There were three fatalities near the station just last month.

This is just crap rhetoric, PP has probably never strayed from her wonder-bread neighborhood.

There is a world of difference between wandering around anywhere in the dark (remember David Rosenbaum?) and not going east of 14th St, including Silver Spring, Takoma Park and all of PG County.

Those are good guidelines for anxious white people who want to avoid places that make them anxious. And yes, I can make fun of them because I used to be one of them.

I'm very proud of how far this country has come with regard to race relations but one of the biggest barriers still ahead of us is how many whites associate crime with black people.

Do you mean most white DC residents? It's not clear or not whether most DC residents actually live in the neighborhoods served by the sections of the metro that the Tea Party advisor says are okay. A damn lot of us live by those allegedly dangerous metro stops.

But most crime like muggings, robberies, armed robberies etc are committed by black people. Or should we be color blind?

I'm a white person living in a working class/poor black neighborhood. If I racially profiled like this, I would be afraid of everybody in the neighborhood! What I've learned is to watch people's behavior, not judge them based on race.

And guess what, my neighbors aren't sitting around waiting for hapless white tourists to venture into the neighborhood so they can jump them! In fact, a white tourist from small town America might find that my neighborhood is a lot like their small town than they think because strangers often say "hello" on the street, regardless of whether you're black, white, rich, or poor.

An even larger percentage of crimes are committed by men. Do you mistrust all men? Virtually 100% of crimes are committed by people who walk without the need of crutches ...

The point, in case it needs to be stated explicitly, is that the probability that a criminal will be AA is not the same as the probability that an AA will be a criminal. The first, which you say is high, is pretty much irrelevant. The second, which is much lower, is the one that is at issue here. I hope it does not sound like I'm belittling your intelligence, since it is both easy and common to confuse the two.

The red part of the map is the part the writer of the "guide" deemed safe. Glad they didn't come to my part of DC-- Glover Park-- because if they did I'd bust a cap in their ass!

MLK believed in non violence. You aren't one to follow his lead, are you?
