We went to the Paramount tryout last night. How soon do you hear back from Paramount if you do get an offer? Within 2 hours or 24 hours?

Was your DD on their radar ahead of tryouts? In prior years they have sent out offers the day of tryouts for players they knew they wanted.

PP here. I don't know. We didn't get an offer last night. We will just move on to the clubs that really wanted my DD instead of waiting around to be a possible alternative.

I think Paramount sent out a message stating that they had 300 or so girls out for tryouts last night and they likely won't get to respond to everyone until Sunday.

Per CHRVA rules, I don't think you have to respond immediately to any offers as you should have until Tuesday to commit.

This is also the first time (at least in recent years) that they have had any tryout sessions after Friday night. Now that Paramount has two teams at age groups from 11-16, they might be having to manage tryouts differently.

As noted, under CHRVA rules a club has to give offers in writing (email is ok) and a player must be given until 10pm on Tuesday to respond. Of course if a player has multiple offers, it is considerate to let clubs as soon as possible that you are declining so that they can make offers to their next choice.

With that size, they will be able to accommodate 15 per team. Not ideal for parents wanting playing time for their DD.

DD got an offer from paramount before we even made it to the car last year. It may even have been before we went to tryouts, I can't remember exactly. Paramount had been courting DD so she was definitely on their radar, they know who they are making offers to before tryouts even happen.

Again, I don't think any club wants to break the CHRVA rules by making offers before the tryouts. Your DD may be awesome volleyball player and all that, but I think you don't remember correctly.

As long as it’s during the open tryout period and the player has registered/paid for a tryout (i.e., they didn’t get a special discount or financial incentive) a club is permitted to make offers before the actual tryout takes place. This year, the open tryout period for girls 14 and younger is “11 a.m. on the last Friday of October through 10 p.m. on the following Tuesday” meaning that clubs could send out offers as early as 11am on Friday, even if the actual tryout happens later in the day or later in the weekend. I know from personal experience that Paramount will send offers soon after 11am on Friday. It might seem a little odd, but it is within the rules.

So, what's missing from the spreadsheet? Is there some piece of information that would have been nice-to-have for last weekend's tryouts?

Admittedly, I'm not going to cover all 75+ CHRVA clubs ... at least not by myself. I may get to add one or two before next weekend.

This is really good and continues to help. Probably the biggest miss are some of the larger clubs -- Vienna Elite, Metro regional, MOCO, Libero, Columbia.

Its very good if a club only runs 1 team, but its hard to follow if they run 2 or 3 (or MD juniors 6-7). Not sure its worth the effort to go through all the teams, but maybe for some of the larger clubs it could make sense. MVSA is a good example with 3 teams at most levels

Not sure where to put this, but Metro, Paramount, VA Juniors, and maybe other clubs aren't even listed in AES for the second Sunshine Classic (15O/U, 16-18) weekend. Do these clubs tend to sign up late? Other CHRVA clubs like MD Juniors, Libero, ECP, VAE, and VAVA have already have teams that have been accepted.

It may be notable that there are only six slots left in 17 Open at Sunshine (42 of 48 teams already taken). Other divisions have a little more room to accept more teams.

Is it time to start refreshing the tryouts spreadsheet (<== on Google Sheets)?

"No, ... not yet!"

I'll try to incorporate boys clubs/teams for the upcoming 2025-2026 club season, if folks help me find useful information. Are the boys tryouts earlier again this year?

Just saying thank you for keeping up that spreadsheet! It was so helpful last year and we referenced it lots to plan and then again when the tryouts didn’t go as she wanted to target clubs for last chance options, where she found a spot.

Of course I refreshed it right as you posted not to.

Aren't tryouts coming up soon?

  • Girls open tryout period (15 and older) - October 31, 2025, 11:00am – November 4, 2025, 10:00pm

  • Anonymous
    Boys tryout dates: August 22 - August 26, 2025
