Not me. No stairs house.

What's up with childish replies that are so dumb? Are you proud to be so petty? Please make sure you never go anywhere where there are stairs. You are neither witty, nor sassy. More like a mo*on.

I am just another member of zero risk crew here on DCUM. I don't walk under trees. I have seen pictures of the ocean from a suitably distant location so I don't get killed by any rogue waves or sharks.

You are proud of this? Ugh.

I did this in my thirties at a friend's house. Their stairs were more slippery than at my own house. It's a shocking feeling how fast you go from being upright to on the floor. It's scary and a good reminder.

It’s not because you’re old, it’s because you wore socks on hardwood floors!

I feel your pain! I am 20 years older than you and still slip on the stairs occasionally but I’m fit! And it doesn’t “take me out” !

Not yet! Stay healthy!

My autistic 7 year old is full of responses like this and it drives me crazy. I’m trying to teach her that it’s not enjoyable for other people. PP’s parents did not teach them, or it didn’t sink in.

I did the same thing when I was 14. Knocked the wind out of me. I don’t think it has to do with age.

Heading down hardwood stairs in socks with my teen’s Stanley in hand to fill it up and I slipped and slid down the stairs. Banged my elbow and thigh. I’m fine but…I feel old. It’s a reminder I’m less than halfway from a fall being the difference between life and death. At 46 I can manage—I’m sure I’ll have a nasty bruise as a result but 20-30yrs from now-this could take me out. And the worst part about this was my teen coming after me going mom, mom are you okay? Just a kick in the pants. Goodnight.

Happened to my teen. We are getting a runner for stairs. Get treads or a runner.

I also haven't showered in the last couple days because you can't be too careful around thunderstorms.

We're having a runner installed on our hardwood stairs. Initially, it was for our large breed dog, but really we need it too.

OP - I've done this twice and the last time went right down on my hip after going down the stairs quickly in tights.

I fell down the stairs chasing after the dog at 4 years ago at the age of 47. Carpeted steps and no socks. Bruised my tailbone which took a loooong time to heal. I can still feel my hip aching some days. That was the driving factor for my current personal training regiment and general reminder to stop rushing.

You raised kids in a house with uncorrected stairs? I'm surprised no one has been seriously injured before this point...

I fell down the stairs when I was young and pregnant. Also stupidly wearing socks on slick wood stairs. I think you need to just…wear slippers or something grippy?

Check out Bombas slippers!

No wearing socks on stairs.

Also—this isn’t age. It happens to everyone. I fall down stairs with alarming frequency…like 5-10 times a year, but it’s gotten to be less as I get older. Maybe more careful?

Also, you should be happy your kid ran to help you, what ppl do in a moment of stress is the truth and that kid definitely loves and cares about you.

This isn't really an age thing, OP. It's never wise to walk on hardwood stairs in socks, plenty of little kids have been badly hurt doing that - I was once when I was only 6 years old, landed at the bottom with the wind totally knocked out of me and nobody around I thought I might die for a few moments before my body convulsed and wind came back into my lungs. I had a badly sprained ankle and bruises here and there from the fall over several steps.

Get some grippy bottomed socks.
