| I don’t even know if this belongs in health or which forum, but feels most appropriate here. 46 years old. Heading down hardwood stairs in socks with my teen’s Stanley in hand to fill it up and I slipped and slid down the stairs. Banged my elbow and thigh. I’m fine but…I feel old. It’s a reminder I’m less than halfway from a fall being the difference between life and death. At 46 I can manage—I’m sure I’ll have a nasty bruise as a result but 20-30yrs from now-this could take me out. And the worst part about this was my teen coming after me going mom, mom are you okay? Just a kick in the pants. Goodnight. |

I hope you feel better and am sorry this happened.
Please get a dexa bone scan if you haven’t already. The results can help you prevent osteoporosis, which can easily go undiagnosed. That’s one disease that can take a person out by causing a broken hip as we get older. PS: Those slipper socks with sticky pads on the bottom can be useful too. |
and tell your kid to get his own water from now on.
|
| Yeah, barefoot or slippers are the way to go. I’ve started relaxing on this lately, but your fall is a good reminder! |
| This is why I only have carpeted stairs. |
| We need to get you grippy socks for walking around inside your home. |
| I can’t see. I fall (usually up) on the stairs all the time. Do not wear flip flops around the house and Skyzone socks are amazing |
| Falling down stairs can happen at any age. |
| NP -- I am 54 and mis stepped down my hardwood stairs in late April. Landed on my back on the hardwood floor. Turns out I broke my elbow from the fall. Had to have two surgeries and just now, five months later, starting to feel better. Hang in there OP. Stairs are a menace to us older people! |
| I don't think this has to do with your age. You are only 46, unless you have balance issues. It happens to everyone. |
Not me. No stairs house. |
What's up with childish replies that are so dumb? Are you proud to be so petty? Please make sure you never go anywhere where there are stairs. You are neither witty, nor sassy. More like a mo*on. |
| I’m 53 and our next move will be to a home on one-level. |
I am just another member of zero risk crew here on DCUM. I don't walk under trees. I have seen pictures of the ocean from a suitably distant location so I don't get killed by any rogue waves or sharks. |
OK, so you suffer from OCD, anxiety, and who knows what. I hope you are not a mom. |
