Reminder to avoid offensive Halloween costumes

Y’all sure do love telling people what to do. Especially when it is obvious. I assume no one has ever listened to op in their entire life.

For a while the deal with adult Halloween costumes was that they were supposed to be "clever" and since most people are not very clever this result in a lot of deeply stupid Halloween costumes that were also borderline (or not borderline) offensive.

Specifically I used to see a weird number of costumes that referenced or tried to make a joke of pedophilia and sexual assault and this is... weird? Disturbing? Completely lacking in any sense of humanity?

Like once people were donning "couple's costumes" featuring a catholic school boy and a priest carrying a sex toy I just think it was time for everyone to go sit in the corner and think about what they'd done.

And yes also all the offensive Native American and Asian costumes.

Keep sitting in the corner until you figure this out folks. Just do what kids do and dress up like a superhero or cartoon character. It's not that hard. Stop trying to be "edgy" or "clever" or "sexy." You ruined it for the group.

I mean, yes, for a lot of those, that was the point. To be offensive. They must have been thrilled that at least one person was offended.

This times 100. Please don’t preach your crap to me.

Slutty nuns will always be fun.

Kind of like how you are offended by this post.

Who is y’all?

We aim to be offensive which is an easy target with you nutjobs.

Op, truly, get some help. People like you who are so easily offended in life, and in fact pass this onto your children, are seriously hurting this society. You have made it a society of victims, but then again, that's probably over your head.

As you select costumes for yourself and your child, please avoid costumes which are culturally insensitive, as well as costumes that are racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, sizeist, or ageist.

Forget that, I’m going as a naughty leprechaun and you can’t stop me. I will appropriate Irish culture at the drop of a hat. And stay away from me Lucky Charms.

And certainly no teachers dressing as old people and using canes.

I am not a troll. This is a serious issue.

I used to work at a place where one of the administrators dressed up as a Japanese Geisha (the lady was White). I’m not Asian, but I found it highly offensive and very inappropriate for the workplace. Also, once while trick-or-treating with my kids, there were people dressed up as middle easterners carry bloody swords and the like. Again, very offensive.

Thank you OP for the reminder. It is sadly needed.

How many people have been killed by offensive costumes?

I fully expect to be cancelled. Here are my Halloween costumes I vividly recall from the 1970s and nearly all wore worn in FCPS parade through the playground!

- witch with broom (I got to wear my mom’s black chiffon evening gown)

- hobo (I wore my grandad’s old hat & my dad’s old suit coat. Dad applied “dirt” with a burned cork)

- Cub Scout (my brother’s old uniform) I tucked my hair under the cap.

- Fortune Teller/mystic/g*p*y: least favorite and one of those horrible Ben Cooper packaged cheap costumes with plastic mask. But I wore layers of my mom’s long beaded necklaces

Okay, White lady. You can stop now. You have permission to stop being offended on other people's behalf and go peacefully about your day without policing other people.
