| If it doesn't make sense to keep standings at U13 and U14, then it also doesn't make sense to keep standings at U15. I mean who really cares about these standings either other than the players, coaches, and parents?!? |
Go sit at the kids table and leave the discussion for serious grownups |
If your U13 and U14 coach is worried about standings and rankings, then he sure ain't focused on your kid's development As a parent or kid, don't you know if you won or lost after the game if thats what's important to you? |
Why do U15 standings matter? |
Why do U15 standings matter? |
This is just false. Been around the soccer block for a while in club and seen a lot of higher level play at these age groups, and never seen a serious coach (or any for that matter) who only cares about winning. Even if you were to eliminate standings it would do absolutely zero to fix anything in youth soccer. From my own kids mouths, the problem with many coaches is they want all their players to play a certain way and give them a hard time when they make mistakes. So my kid isn't being criticized for not winning games, it's when they chose to try to beat the last defender and take a shot rather than make a pass. So then it gets in their head and they are afraid to ever go 1v1 because of the chance they fail and the coach reacts. This type of thing isn't about winning, it's about coaches wanting to control everything that goes on during the game. |
There is MLSNext playoffs and GA Cup starting at U15 and teams need to qualify for based on league standings. |
Again why does any of that matter? Who actually cares? College scouts don't care about team standings. |
Then that is shitty coaching and also about about winning. You win more by playing it safe. But Development requires being allowed to make mistakes and risks. And I can understand what ur saying. DS selected a different club over another one bc the style of play would hinder any soccer IQ instincts he had. Lots of passing and playing it safe. Don’t think u can develop individually playing that way. |
This is so true. For college or any recruiting, you need platforms like MLSNext and ECNL to be seen. But at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter where ur team stands; it’s how u perform when you’re being watched. |
They could have ID camps and things like ODP to take individuals to showcase events. But even beyond that, why would they have EDP U15 standings for people who aren't recruiting for college? Seems standings have basically no purpose unless they involve money (college scholarships or professional) or they have purpose because of the motivation that competition by itself brings. |
Ya who cares about anything. Who cares about college scouts, your kid will probably bench to the international and academy kids anyways. Who cares about the 2 biggest boys tournament in the US? |
Because Internationally U15 is when tactical and performance starts gaining traction at academies because maturation is happening with the players. At MLS Next level the standings matter at U15 because of entry requirements into national tournaments. U13 & U14 has no such tournament entry requirements. |

Personally just being curious about how one teams does against another team doesn’t make us not care about our kids development. So relax.
And understanding how well my son team is doing compared to the over league might make me rethink which program I think is best for us. |
| I am European. It is funny reading this guy "Anonymous" talking about developmental "soccer" for 13k years old kids mentality. No scoring, no rankings... Crazy. Nowadays in Europe the 16 years lads are opening matches, 19k guys like Lamine Yamal and Arda Guler are the team stars on prime football teams. Stop getting your American psycho stupidity on Football |
