I predict a dramatic increase in those numbers for both Banneker and Eastern in the next 5 years |
MacArthur is going to increase dramatically. Remember MacArthur started with just 9th and 10th graders, so we should expect those numbers to at least double just based on the school adding classes. JR is going to fall, because of Hardy losing the feed. |
Oh…based on what? A “feeling”? |
I'm not that person, but the number of high school students is increasing faster than any other grade bracket in the city, especially among white and hispanic students but also among black students, so it stands to reason that numbers will increase in several different schools. |
What's the source for the numbers? |
I am a current Banneker parent and can tell you a lot of your “sense” doesn’t align with our actual experience |

What happened to Wilson? Renamed? |
Yes, it was renamed Jackson-Reed. |
I work with DCPS high schools. I’m a central office employee. I also have friends with kids at Banneker. |
I am also a DCPS employee and know several current and former teachers at Banneker. The principal is the number one reason I wouldn’t send my child to the school. It’s not just ridiculously strict rules, there are other things that I fundamentally disagree with (I would be more specific but really can’t with the things I’ve heard). |
I'd love a school with strict rules. Its about time. |
I don’t have kids at the school but it’s no secret about the things mentioned above about Banneker. |
I don’t know but ngl I also thought about that lone white kid in some of these schools. How did they end up there? Are their parents extremely progressive or extremely clueless/absent? What’s the story there? |
Why is this what you imagine would happen? Is it because this is how you would treat 'onlies' at school? Is this how you treat 'onlies' at work, on teams, at religious settings, in social settings? |
