Any success hiring for afterschool pickup?

We needed care 2 days one week and 3 days the opposite week because I do rotating 12s.
For 3 years a sahm I was friends with did it. We paid her and the understanding was if her older son had sports practice she just took my kid along. Her younger son was same grade as mine and they were friends. My kid went to their house. She moved and we switched to a sitter, found a lifeguard at our pool that did it for 2 years then she went to college and recommended her friend. Friend has been doing it over 2 years now and is going to CC so it works. We pay her $60 per visit minimum. Sometimes she only does 2 hours but it’s generally between 2-3 hours and does require driving. We are in moco. |

| I looked at the bus routes and figured out the areas that the bus dropped off to. I then posted on my Buy Nothing Group and through one of the mom's on there I found a high schooler who wanted just a few hours. So, my daughter takes a different bus (which is fun for her because different friends are on there then her typical bus) and the high schooler gets her and brings her to her house for about an hour. I pay her 18 for the hour, and it's probably not even a full hour. She only does 3 days a week but I was able to change my schedule around a little so it works. My DD's after care program was crap and her school offers little to no after school activities, which is why I sought out the babysitter. |

| How old? Is there any possibility at all that they could latchkey? We had a similar bind at 9yo and we were surprised when our child proved himself very responsible and reliable. He would bus home, walk the 3ish blocks from the stop, let himself in, and have a prepared snack and use devices for about an hour until we got home. I think he sort of loved it. We had a neighbor a couple houses down and another mom a block over who he could call or go to in an emergency. We did get him a cell phone at this point, however. |

| A couple of people on here mentioned private aftercare with school pickup. How did you find those options, and could you share any you know of here? I'm searching unsuccessfully for a private aftercare program that will pick up my PK4 child from Marie Reed Elementary. |
