Not OP, but I weigh 265 lbs and don't exercise much. My DW weighs 120lbs and is very athletic (i.e. iron man competitions). But my blood pressure and cholesterol levels are GREAT, while hers are PRETTY BAD and require medications to manage. So it's different for some of course. |
No, there are multiple studies substantiating that BMI of 26-27 is healthier as you age. Being underweight is not healthy. |

yes, you can be healthy and overweight. You can also be an ideal weight an unhealthy. Friend's husband who was a normal weight just diet from a heart attach while out for a run. People just love to judge fat people because they can see that they are fat vs the unhealthy thin people who appear fine on the outside.
Now I will say that one are that is proven to suffer from excess weight are the joints. Carrying too much extra weight is not good for your joints and gets worse as you age. |
I definitely carry more weight on my body than my mom, who is about 105. But then she lives off of boxed wine, ciggies, yougurt, and basically adult version of lunchables (girl dinner?) I am about 175, am built more like my dad, and I run 15 miles a week and eat mostly whole foods. I'm in my late 40s, so I'm not as strict as I was when I was younger, and I find I'm happier and according to my doctor, in great shape.
Weight cannot be the only measure of health. Especially when you start to layer in food marketing, government subsidies, the 90s waif thing, and overall diet culture. Those all play a big part of what we think healthy should "look" like. |

I'm 5'2 and 155. My blood work is really good and I have "the blood pressure of a teenager." I lift weights 3-4 times a week plus play tennis, hike or play pickleball at least 2 other days a week. I'm 53. |

Pretty much the same except I'm 160. I eat a highish protein vegetarian diet heavy of vegetables and comex carbs. I do yoga once a week, lift heavy 3x a week, and do intense cardio 2x a week. But because I have some extra fat around my body because of medications (so it doesn't really matter I could have the extra way too because I enjoy food!) people on here are convinced I'm going to keel over a heart attack or obesity related disease on one day. It's a good thing I don't really care what I'm other people think. |
Overweight, maybe, but definitely not obese. It doesn’t matter if there is someone skinny who is even less healthy than you. This is a really dumb rationale. It doesn’t matter if one sub set of tests looks fine, those aren’t the whole picture.
