Labor Day weekend soccer tournaments suck!!!

These tournaments are great to shore things up for the season. DS is on a BSC team. Was surprised at how poor some of the competition was. Coppermine is usually decent but they seemed to have lost a step this year. McLean team we watched was pretty horrible as well, but less surprising given the exodus of talent there in the last year.

Will be happier once the regular season kicks off, but these tournaments are useful to try different strategies and to measure the other clubs for the season.

We did a tournament three weeks ago. Would have been happy with Labor Day weekend!

The point of soccer tournaments are to be seen my college coaches, so why would there be a youth soccer tournament in the middle of the college soccer season? It’s a money grab straight away

(Satire font...) Many of the NoVa clubs host tournaments and many in the club leadership support each other quid-pro-quo. Our clubs will attend your event and your clubs will attend my event. We can all make money. Sure, we already have 6 tournaments scheduled and it's still summer time, but if the coaches tell them we are signing up, they will pay the money. Remember when we did those scrimmage festivals? Those were good, but no one made any money on those free and low cost events. So now, $1000 per team for another tournament. These parents will just keep paying... remember they all signed up for Super Y and thought they were getting a good deal... boy that FOMO a is real driver for parents to shell out cash to support little Maria's dreams right? We also have plenty of room to grow, look at little league baseball.... those kids pay about $1,000 per player to participate in those Cooperstown events. We need to get to that level!

9 year olds are not trying to be scouted.

You have confused showcases with tournaments.

As someone who used to work in youth soccer it’s sad that every weekend has to be booked with youth sports and the insane amount of pressure placed upon kids by *insert group here*. All are equally culpable.

I loved watching my kid play this weekend in the RSC tournament

My kids team played the loudon tournament which was the weekend before the first day of school. In August. It was terrible timing and super hot. Labor Day weekend seems like a more normal time for a tournament. You've been practicing for more than a month and it's right before the season starts. Also you have Monday off to recoup.

However many of their parents think they should be.

Just RSVP 'no' then. Pre season tournaments should be a must for teams. Shake out the Cobb webs, help new players get playtime and into the groove of the team, and gives a coach a real idea of how their team is looking and more importantly what they need to work on. Does it need to be Labor Day? Not necessarily... You complaining about flat Pre-season play is so annoying to all the other families who actually care, though.

On the top teams, there are always 2-3 players who should be scouted by top academy teams if they are at a top club. Are you new to this?

Ugh. I agree. Just wrapped the Louden tournament. Such a waste of time. Poor play. Exhausted moody kids.

We're doing the VRSC tournament.... 1 game Friday, 1 game Saturday, 1 game Sunday, 1 game Monday... ugh. Hope they can get it compacted next year.
