Labor Day weekend soccer tournaments suck!!!

So miserable. The kids are newly back to school and everyone is exhausted. These Labor Day tournaments really take a toll on families. I think families and players pay for it for weeks after.

- kids are exhausted already from school
- families are fried from back to school
- players are out of shape
- teams haven’t gelled
- it is so freakin HOT and miserable

Please stop.

Way better for players well-being to get rest after start of school year and ramp up as soccer practice starts again.

- You could have your kid not go
- Some people actually enjoy them
- It’s not hot every year, can’t know the weather
- It could help the team gel
- You could have your kid only go to some of the games
- It helps players get in shape

I dislike pre-season tournaments and defiantly wouldn't miss a Labor Day weekend one. I could do without it, but we have to pay team dues that include's a Labor Day tournament.

It does help the players gel, but I feel like it's too much hype to soon...I almost feel like coaches just want to get them done and and get he requirement out of the way. Come the end of the season mid-November , everyone is looking for a break.

Not “everyone” is looking for a break. It’s some people and more importantly, it’s you. Don’t think that your own viewpoints are shared by “everyone”. If that were the case, then labor day tournaments wouldn’t exist. There must be enough parents who like them to continue signing up for teams that play them. Maybe your viewpoint is the minority one and the “everyone” is just you and a few others.

This guy is raising the next Messi. Keep your no Labor Day weekend tournament thoughts to yourself. It will derail the intensive schedule planned for such a high level player. Can’t you understand the best players in the world played 3 games a weekend every weekend. Less soccer means no college or going pro for you. Injuries be damned.

Yes. It’s too much too soon.

Def feels like coaches/league are trying to check a box vs do what’s best for kids development and well being

You don't have to participate.

Of course you have to participate if the team signs up.

I agree - it’s too much too soon and overall sets kids back for both school and soccer.

It’s not good for kids/families, it shouldn’t happen. But clubs have their own agendas.

My son’s team did one last year and it was overall a good experience that set the tone for the fall season. But the kids had been playing together a while with the same coach as the year before. This year there is a new coach, some new teammates, and more kids on the field. The team has a lot of things they need to work on. So I’m glad they’re not doing a tournament until October. I don’t need to spend a holiday weekend watching them lose 3 times.

My daughter is guest playing - along with 4 other girls - in a tournament this weekend because the “main” team didn’t have enough players. She’s happy to be playing and we didn’t have other plans. (Though it does mean I’m a bit limited with what I do with my younger daughter.) It doesn’t help the girls gel as much when there are guest players, but it does help shake some cobwebs off. (We agreed to a game yesterday and a game today and skipped last night’s game. They didn’t make it to the 2nd game today.)

No, you don’t have to participate. Yes, of course the people running the league aren’t doing it to help player development.

Stop complaining. This is what you signed up for.

Agree. Thoughtful adults look out for what’s best for the kids.

Re: the title of the thread. Please speak like an adult. Is the child the author of the post?

Parents need to stop with the victim mentality. It’s your choice to join these clubs knowing full well what’s involved. It’s your choice to have your kid attend every tournament and game. It’s your responsibility to do what’s best for your kid. Stop blaming the clubs/coaches/society/other parents. You are a participant not a victim.
