I went for months and it was the highlight of my week. My work schedule changed and I can no longer make it work, and I feel the difference. For me, I felt as good as if I just had a massage, but the effects lasted longer. The person I worked with had a degree in kinesiology, so I guess it depends on where you go if the person knows what they’re doing. I’d tell her what I wanted to focus on and she’d use her kinesiology powers and stretching witchcraft to make me feel great for a week. My boss actually told me I was glowing after a session where she made my feet feel especially good. I’m in San Francisco and went to Stretch Lab. I’m not sure if all their locations are as good, but I was very happy with them. I gave a few sessions to friends as gifts and they all felt the same.
I wonder if the people on this thread who think it’s not a good idea have tried it or are judging it without any actual experience. |
OP here. Thanks for the feedback. Still debating. |
Where did you go? |
Same. When I asked my PT about these places they pointed out that they are not licensed & insured like a PT is. Basically, go at your own risk. You could get someone licensed like a PP, or someone who just did some youtubes. |
Try a session of reformer Pilates to see if that is similarly helpful |
I am sure they do some stretches that you can't do on your own but not sure that makes these places necessary. I think the real benefit is that it will actually make you stretch for an hour straight vs not stretching on your own. Most people are not discipline enough to stretch on their own so places like this force them to do it.
if someone has a solid stretching routine that they actually do consistently they will see huge benefits. But someone who never stretches will come out of a place like this thinking they are miracle workers. |
You tell us. Why are you asking when you have been to one and said it helped you? |
i am assuming OP is referring to Strechlab as this seems to be the new fad that is popping up. |
Stretch Lab |
Go on line and Google fascial stretch therapy. The therapists have far more training then at a place like Stretch Labs so they can really target what you need beyond just stretching. They may incorporate some deep tissue massage as part of the stretch session. What’s good is that if you have stiffness in one area they know that it is likely some other area that is creating the problem. But, even a Stretch Labs is better than trying to do it yourself. |
If it is a financial burden I would try stretching via you tube -- I do that. I agree these places are much better than you tube, but it's a luxury even if it is for self-care health. I feel amazing after deep tissue massage, they are like life-changing for two to three days, but I can only afford a massage two maybe three times a year. I get super tight and would love to do fascial stretching with a profession, I think it would be the most significant thing I could do to improve my health. |
Check your insurance! BCBS 365 the Sept. monthly deal is a month or two at a number of fitness places (that included) for a heck of a deal. If you have 365 cash you can use it there too! |
Does other insurance cover this for a few sessions? I wonder if your dr has to advise to do this for insurance coverage? Most pain like in back - originates from somewhere else due to tightness |
