Dave and busters (and Rio overall) has become a place I wouldn't let kids hang out on a Friday. Same goes for Bethesda and Rockville

Why?

With regard to D&B at Rio: A lot of people come in smelling like weed and there a lot of sketchy looking people hanging out there on Friday and Saturday nights.

Ask yourself why there are 3 or more police stationed in and around D and B on weekend nights

My high schooler used to go to the skating rink on Friday nights. Cabin John and Wheaton have teen skating nights on Fridays.

What did you do when you were a high school student? Went to parties, bonfires, cruised the town looking for meet ups, went to clubs, went to games, had jobs, etc. Same now.

My kids are much more likely to spend the evening wandering a downtown area, ending up at chipotle (always chipotle), watching a school play, going to a basketball game (better attendance!) or going to someone's house to hang out.

Typically a school play is also only a handful of consecutive day or nights.

One of my kids and his friends will go see plays of other schools, but yes it’s a matter of stringing together a lot of events each of which happen a few times a year. Football is a handful of home games too.

Are plays on Friday nights?
Our school is big on theater but it's still far from a popular thing for students to go see u less a sibling is involved with theater

We have one performance per year that's really popular-- all of my non theater kids have gone as spectators every year. It is a big deal that involves a ton of kids, so every kids knows somebody in it. Has like 5 performances with the auditorium full (though not necessarily sold out). The other plays are less popular, I think.

Westfields mall in Bethesda is all middle schoolers. High schoolers do not hang there.

Homecoming games are always on a Friday or weekend and typically a dance the following night. But yes that is just one weekend in the Fall as is Prom.
