I don’t buy a story that your dad was having a series of ministrokes and was able to hide it. If your dad was by himself neither you nor his doctors would know what was happening with him. Most people who have mini-strokes don’t know what is happening to them. My coworker did not know her face was drooping. We saw it was and called the ambulance. They don’t “hide” their condition because it’s not apparent to them. People who interact with them see signs. I don’t buy that your dad lived by himself, had a knowledge based job as a senior manager/expert, had no outward signs of a series of mini strokes, and nobody knew. My father died from a massive stroke and is suspected of having at least one tia before the stroke that killed him. His writing was getting increasingly difficult to read and he had problems swallowing food. He was choking during meals. There are some outward signs and symptoms. Trump was nearly assassinated. He’s lucky to be alive. Maybe such an experience has changed his demeanor? |
| My father, a life long democrat, also suffered memory loss and cognitive function as a result of several mini strokes. He would not recognize today’s Democratic Party. |
Unlike op you actually were present in your father’s life and didn’t blame him for being a “jerk” b/c he was undergoing brain damage due to a medical condition beyond his control. What kind of person is disparaging of their father as he supposedly undergoes a “series of ministrokes” alone and in isolation that leads to his death? Sorry your dad disappointed you as he struggled to survive alone with serious medical issues that affected his brain, op. You were the real victim in that situation. |
| So vote for Kamala and go about your life. I don’t get these posts with amateur diagnoses meant to what sway someone not to vote for the other side? I’m starting to wonder if they are bots. |
Everyone’s different. My mother had mini strokes like OP describes. She and we noticed decline but attributed it to an autoimmune disease she had. There was some of that but mainly it turned out to be the mini strokes. Those progressed to major ones that ultimately disabled and killed her. I have a colleague with similar decline, also lives alone. I’m not privy to her medical diagnosis but the rate of decline is such that it has to be mini strokes or aggressive dementia. She can go about her daily life but attention, focus, following threads or conversation, are all hit or miss. Sometimes seems fine and sometimes people are like “uhh …. What did Larla just say, that makes no sense.” It’s the back and forth nature that makes me suspect mini strokes as that’s what I saw with my mom. |
In Trump’s case, he was already suffering from FTD. |
Dp- he was babbling incoherently before the shooting tho |
I think we would call that voter fraud.... Perhaps we should take a closer look at everyone who voted for him to make sure they're still alive |
I attribute the aggression and pathetic denial in this post to terror about the Republicans losing badly. Donald Trump is too old and declining, pp. Some people can’t bear to hear what they don’t want to hear. Some people isolate themselves, pp. My father was one of them, and fortunately got good healthcare at the end of his life. His life was his work and his colleagues and other people may have noticed or helped him early on. I only realized in retrospect that there were signs of decline and once it was truly obvious, it was too late and he needed 24/7 care already. I think we will see the same with Trump. Blustering through verbal stumbles until one day he just needs constant care. |
| PP is correct and many posts on this board were deleted by the round one to protect the lie of Bidens cognitive decline. |
Biden has experienced physical decline with arthritis for sure. And he’s always had a speech impediment that perhaps is resurfacing more strongly as he ages and is unable to mask it as well as he has his entire adult life. But his vocabulary is still 10x what Donald’s is. That’s easily provable. He still can talk about actual policies unlike Donald. Also easily provable by comparing videos. And while he has mixed up names he doesn’t do it as nearly high a rate as Donald “Hey North Carolina” (said in Pennsylvania) Trump. |
President Biden is also… NOT RUNNING for president! Because once the concerns with his age were obvious, he was pressured not to run again. Trump is clearly so much worse! |

My FIL had mini strokes and vascular dementia. He was a great guy and very smart but as the disease ate away at his brain he had moments of confusion, his vocabulary decreased, and he had trouble following multi step thought processes or thinking through normal cause and effect. (As one early example, I remember him getting very upset about something Congress was considering and maybe going to pass — I pointed out the president would surely veto it, and that had not occurred to him. He was a major political junkie so the fact that he had not gamed that out in his head was really upsetting.)
To me, it seems very obvious that Trump has vascular dementia. Particularly considering his diet. I assume he is on blood thinners (which may also explain why he bled so much from a small wound to his ear). I would think he has also had some kind of procedure to remove plaque from his arteries like angioplasty. If he was more transparent about his medical situation, we might know that. But it seems pretty obvious to me, and it also explains the shuffling gait. Vascular dementia is really under-recognized and the progression is different than Alzheimer’s. |
