Donald Trump reminds me of my father who was having ministrokes throughout his 70s

Donald Trump's behavior as of late is reminding me a lot of my father as he declined precipitously in his 70s. Like Trump, he was a fairly prolific liar and bombastic, so the symptoms of his cognitive decline were somewhat difficult to detect. It's hard to detect abnormal behavior when the baseline is already so abnormal. His inability to remember details that I had told him just seemed like his regular selfishness. Unbeknownst to us he was having ministrokes, and eventually totally collapsed and was unable to take care of himself anymore.

I see shades of this in the former president. The way he speaks is almost the same, but not quite what he was before. The rambling, the repetition, the inability to stay on script. Even though he seems to have the same general vibe or energy, he is clearly not all there. Very similar to what I saw in my dad. Eventually it was like there were too many assaults on my dad's brain and he very quickly declined to the point of no return. I think that point is really unpredictable and we would be very close to President Vance if Trump were elected.

How many mini-strokes did your father have? What was his cause of death? Was he institutionalized in a memory care unit ever?

Mini-strokes rarely cause memory loss.

Cedars-Sinai stroke team seems to disagree with you.

https://www.cedars-sinai.org/health-library/diseases-and-conditions/t/tia-related-memory-loss.html

Symptoms of memory loss due to a transient ischemic attack are often temporary and vary depending on the area of the brain affected.

Short-term memory loss is the most common form of memory loss due to a TIA. Patients experiencing short-term memory loss will have vivid memories from long ago, but will have difficulty remembering the events of the present day.

Symptoms of memory loss include:

Confusion
Difficulty paying attention and concentrating
Difficulty organizing thoughts or actions
Difficulty deciding what to do next
Depression
Difficulty speaking
Difficulty understanding speech

Patients at risk of experiencing a transient ischemic attack are at a higher risk of developing memory loss due to a TIA.

To be honest, I'd rather have Vance than Trump. he is horrible but less horrible than Trump.

This is from your link:

In rare cases, TIA can cause memory loss.

I agree but for slightly different reasons. Vance would be more reliable in ending the Democrat Party. He’d be slicker at arming the militias and forming a pretext to waive posse comitatus so loyal U.S. military units can wipe out the opposition leaders.

My coworker had a ministroke at work. One side of their face started drooping. An ambulance was called and they were dx’d with a TIA. They are back at work now and they are recovered.

Op, how was your dad having mini strokes and no one in your family notice?

Trump doesn't even know where the hell he is... in the midst of rambling incoherently about tents he asks "would that be OK, North Carolina?" (He's in Wilkes-Barre, PA)

Audience seems confused about the rambling, too...

Talks about how Bobby Knight endorsed him...

umm... Bobby Knight's dead.

Previously he also said that Joan Rivers voted for him - except she died before Trump even ran for President.

Weird how Trump supposedly has all of these dead people endorsing him and voting for him.

He lived by himself, was somehow able to work undetected, and Covid was a factor. He didn’t have any drooping or anything like that. Somehow my dad kept working despite having a knowledge-based job. But I think he was the senior/expert and as he declined he relied more on the people under him. He just seemed to decline a lot while he was by himself.

I’m not saying Trump is necessarily having strokes. I’m not a medical professional. But my grandmother was also able to effectively hide Alzheimer’s for years and years by diligently taking notes on everything she needed to be doing while her memory was deteriorating. But she was a wonderful lady.

I’m saying something bad is happening to Trump despite his ability to project a similar amount of energy as before. He’s declining precipitously and there’s very little honesty about what is going on with his health.

Yes, my father passed at 93. My father came to the US in 1949 at the age of 23 and live the last 70 years of his life in the US. He came for graduate school and never left. His entire working career was in the US. He was fluent in American English, but we did notice in the last 10 years of his life that he was slowly losing his control of English. By the time he passed, he sounded like a recent immigrant and half the time, I had to speak to him in his native language. We found out after he died of a major stroke, that he had had a series of mini-strokes (found during his autopsy). It explains the gradual loss of his second language in the last decade of his life.

Apparently, with mini-strokes, it is not unusual to lose things that you learned later in life and are left with mostly longer term memories from earlier in life.

If you look at videos of Trump even up through his 50's and early 60's he had a significantly larger working vocabulary. It wasn't until his late 60's, like 10 years ago, that he started losing many of the multi-syllabic works in his diction and he started using much more simple colloquial vernacular in his speech. His loss of his more advanced vocabulary and diction definitely mirrors my own father's loss of his second language and some of the more complex vocabulary that he had developed over a lifetime of working in the US after the mini-strokes had started to affect him.

I definitely see some of the same signs in Donald Trump. It would not be at all surprising if he suffers are much more serious stroke in the next few years.
