I am personally setting money aside for Switzerland trip for when I decide enough is enough. Therapy is a great option but so is entertaining the idea that she may just feel like it’s time. I know I would find it super hard and my kids will probably too but I wish we would normalize in society a world where someone can choose to end their own suffering if they want to

Just curious. In situations like this, do you believe there is a difference between mental and physical suffering?

New poster here and no, not for elderly patients. Surely they have the right to decide when to go, for any reason. If this was a younger adult with young dependents, the calculus would be very different, because minor children are impressionable and it's probably not in their best interest to have a mentally ill parent choosing suicide. But even then, there are some extreme and hopeless cases where it could be appropriate - just as a last resort.

I am all for expanding the right to suicide.

+1, if they decide its time, I don't understand why one wouldn't respect their wishes.

Op - no.
I just think people should be allowed to die if they want. Feels insane to me that we don’t let them.

OP, I’m sorry you’re going through this. Do you know why your mother attempted yet? The reason is a major factor I would consider in any next steps.
