is Georgetown ever going to revise their FA situation?

I dont think they care about this.

They have many outdated elements including a 1990s barbell demographic - very rich and very poor. They dont even acknowledge the issue

They will always get plenty of applicants due to their location. There is no real incentive to beautify the campus or increase financial aid.

All the privates are getting like this. Free tuition (almost) for everyone under $125-150k and everyone over pays in full. Most T20s have rich and poor. Those that can afford it without aid and those who come from a low income to be able to get needs-based aid. Donut hole has gotten bigger and more MC/UMC being cut out of ability to send kids to private due to tuition becoming $85k-100k/year. Now even the in-state schools are expensive for many families--$40k, etc.

Most top colleges are trying to fix this (I'm not really sure why it has to be fixed since 60-150k does encompass most of the middle class and 200k+ers are just the annoying types to tell everyone they're comfortable).

Georgetown needs to get it together at this price point. MC and UMC are no longer present at Georgetown. It's a rich kid school. And it's a poor kid school. And if they don't make it accessible to other classes soon, it's going to be a forgotten school.

Georgetown can no longer compete for talent. It's wealth and charity. And they're stupid for going in that direction.

Dount hole is an excuse for rich people not willing to make financial sacrifices to pay for college. Here's an idea, real middle class don't send their kids to colleges that they cannot afford or they take loans.

They really hit you hard for home equity and give almost no leeway with two kids in college at same time.

Georgetown with two kids would cost me 180k a year. Williams could cost me 70k. And there others are closer to Williams.

I have 3 kids in college. Full pay at $85k+ each. I don’t think it matters how many kids you have, it is about assets and HHi.

Look, we made the sacrifices. We are full-pay. Very happy to be able to pay for my kids and allow them to choose anywhere.

But, I sure as hell can gripe about the inflated cost of college tuition (everyone should be griping about this) with in-state approaching $40-50K at VA top publics all-in and privates $85k-100K/year.

Everyone should be angry about that.

Their legacy policy is ridiculous too. That turns a lot of kids off when they see low stat legacy classmates being admitted, well under the typical test score and gpa average for the school.

Catholics are takers not givers, so not going to change.

This
💯
It’s a non issue for the school. Frankly, low financial aid packages help them (they’ll go to full pay on WL anyway)…

This is true of the FAFSA, as well, now, so nothing unusual in college admissions

Full pay everywhere for both kids.

What is your HHI? Ours has hovered from $300-400k

You think you should get aid on that income?

Of course! lol

I’ll take anything.

It is a little absurd if you make $301k, you are on the hook for $400k vs if you make $250k, all without taking into account some have to live in very high cost living areas/high cost real estate areas because that is where their job industry is. I never understood why cost of living was never factored into aid calculations. We all know $300k in SanFran, DC, etc., does not go far like it does in smaller towns. Two families with drastically different lifestyles. My sibling literally has a mansion at $300k sticker price, everything cheaper—can’t even get a condo for a family in DC.

NP. Of course dmv has high col, but, cmon. You make over 300k. You should have been able to save some and cashflow some. You should not get FA. We're on 150k in dmv. Inside the beltway.

OP, some schools are better than others on FA for middle class. Williams is pretty good (but a very hard admit of course). Sounds like you're already doing this, but use NPC to give you a sense of how home value and 2nd kid factor. Time consuming but worthwhile. FWIW, all of our offers were better than NPC est.

A few anomalies here.
Very few colleges have free tuition for families close to 150k. Definitely a bunch if under 100k.
But all these are middle class. I love how the wealthy are trying to reinvent themselves as the real middle class, and those of us under 150k are "poor." Good grief. Look to QB for guidelines on low income (under 70k).

But Georgetown is a CSS school. And those mostly still do make adjustments for two kids
