| You can see how the B1G is strategizing for the most part. Large flagship research schools and they have the media markets of NYC, Philly, Wash/Balt, Chicago and LA locked down the top media markets have big ten schools rolling through. |
The Big Ten Conference wants Texas A&M as the discussions with U Texas failed many years ago as U Texas wanted to partner with U Oklahoma & Big Ten had no interest in U Oklahoma. Texas A&M would be a huge get for the Big Ten Conference. |

Damn. This makes me feel sorry for the ACC. UMD really messed the conference up geographically splitting it in half, took the most valuable media market and initiated the slow motion train wreck. The Acc freaked out and signed a very weird media deal which reflects horribly on the instincts and intelligence of the administrations of that conference. If any are admitted to the B1G eventually I wonder if UMD will demand the penalty they took plus interest which would approach 80 million so far.

There is no way any ACC team gets into the B1G without paying UMD its money back with inflation. By the time it could possibly happen it’s going to be in the 100 million range. |

Oddly enough they do. BC is the only p4 school in New England. If ACC implodes look for BC to be included in the B10 with whatever other teams are added. Add Boston and New England TV markets. |

It can happen when this round of rights deals expires and a lot of people expect it to happen including the people who were predicting consolidation. Ohio State can't kick teams out of the B10, but they can leave to form a different conference. If we've seen anything this last round, it's that money speaks a lot louder than tradition and loyalty. When 2030 rolls around, splitting the revenue 18 or god knows how many ways vs signing a new, larger deal with teams who car carry their own weight is going to be appealing to bigger schools and networks who really don't want filler like a Minnesota Rutgers game. And FS may suck, but they get great ratings which is all tv networks care about. |

| When UMD and Rutgers joined the media contract doubled. The B1G is an nfl model going forward. The teams (it would never happen) in trouble would be Michigan st and Purdue ( two teams in the state), Illinois ( they would keep northwestern right in Chicago). The ACC teams all have issues. That’s why they took the most valuable school UMD. No other school would have imploded the ACC so badly. |
Then standardize on Oxford Uni tests. |

In expanding its scholastic footprint, the Big Ten also increased the value of the BTN's New York and D.C. subscribers. According to SNL Kagan data, cable operators pay an estimated "in-market" rate of $1 per sub per month, more than double the $0.44 fees charged outside the conference's home markets. Cablevision alone serves 2.64 million video customers in New York, New Jersey and southwestern Connecticut; with the upgraded fee in place, BTN sees its annual payout from the operator rise to around $31.7 million from $13.9 million (bolding mine)
I'm no Sports Business reporter, but more than doubling your annual operator payout seems like a pretty good business outcome to me. AA also reports that BTN is able to charge ad rates comparable to what ESPN gets for the SEC Network. Umd and Rutgers doubled the media revenue. Plus rolling teams and games through NYC area and DC/Balt with tons of Big ten alumni. |
That's true if you rely on cable subscribers being forced to pay for networks they don't want. By the time the rights deal expires, streaming will matter far more and Amazon/Netflix/Apple are going to care about which teams get eyeballs |
