Thanks everyone! Any brands to avoid? |
Not really, just avoid big logos if your son doesn’t have a preference. I am the first poster who has an 11th grade son. The other poster made me realize mine also wears black sneakers to school because that’s what is required for his job and they are comfortable so they are the ones he wears everywhere. We live in a high SES area and you will find all types of kids. |
21:01 and I should mention the one thing he cares very much about with brands is his Nike slides. He loves those black slides and they have to be Nike. He wears them with and without socks depending on the season. |
Mine wears joggers or adidas trainer pants and a tee shirt. A lot of his tees are either plain and maybe a little more fitted than what he wore in MS or are from places we’ve traveled or have manga/anime that he likes.
One store that is cheap but he considers very stylish is Uniqlo. He has some more report j crew type stuff but that’s more dinner with grandma wear, not for school. |
My 15 yo wears athletic shorts/pants and t-shirts (mostly from his own sport, his favorite pro sports team, places we’ve traveled, etc). But he so far does not care about fashion at all. |
Yeah, but then at the end of the year, my 8th grader (soon to be freshman) asked for a pair. It was so out of the blue and honestly, he looked nice going to school in jeans. I imagine he stood out from his peers (hopefully in a good way) |
It his a boy or girl? oversized pants with chucks or birkenstocks is the uniform for a lot of girls. Or lululemon leggins with an oversized grey hoodie. those are the 2 options |
Hoodies, shorts and a tshirt. |
+1. My son has also asked for jeans this school year— the first time in years. I think they must be coming back into style. |
Can’t speak to Converse too much, but in my area, Birks are very mainstream and well-liked among teenage boys. And yes, the socks (typically Nike crew) go hand in hand. |
Mine didn't wear jeans from 3rd through HS. He shocked me last year when he brought jeans home from the thrift store before heading to college! |
This seems pretty spot on to me and reflective of what my two teenage boys wear. Jeans are not popular on a day to day basis, but my boys each have a pair and will occasionally wear them with a sweatshirt, flannel shirt, or both (unbuttoned flannel over the sweatshirt). Generally speaking, hoodies, shorts, and t-shirts are what my sons live in. As another PP said, small logos are preferred right now. When the weather gets colder, they’ll switch to joggers or sweatpants. Gray Nike sweatpants are very common. One another thing I have not seen mentioned on here yet is accessories. It seems that wearing a chain has become more prevalent with teenage boys over the past few years. Mine, along with many others, wear cross chains, but simple chains with no pendant are very common too. One of my sons also has a bracelet that he got from vacation in the Caribbean that he likes to wear. Like other posters have said, anything goes for shoes. My sons mainly wear a couple different types of Nikes; one of my sons has a pair of Timberlands that he wears in the fall and winter, and my older son got into Birkenstocks last year and has lived in them this summer and wears them with socks and sweatpants at school. Recently, he’s talked about getting a pair of the Boston clogs, which have risen in popularity over the last couple years with teenage guys from what I can tell. And yes, the “shortish” Lululemon shorts are very popular with many boys at our school. Both of my DSs wear the 5 inch Pace breaker shorts and have a few different pairs/colors of them. They also wear the Lulu khaki pants and t-shirts, and I regularly see teen boys wearing other Lulu items, including the sweatshirts and joggers. Definitely expensive but prevalent and popular. My sons also like Gymshark and YoungLA brands as well for athletic gear. |
How come they don’t wear jeans? |
PP here. For my boys, jeans are seen as more formal (!) and not very comfy compared to the sweats and joggers that they usually wear. |
