Just a vent…sick on long-awaited vacation

Ugh sorry op. I had pneumonia on our Christmas trip to Europe last year

This happened to us too. We got Covid on our first big trip since the pandemic (in 2022). We were all sick. I definitely had a few little cries about how this felt unfair as we'd been planning the trip for so long. But. It was ok. Not the exact trip we wanted, but we still had a nice time. We were in a beautiful location and just soaked that in while taking more naps than usual and eating takeout.

Do whatever works for you to distract yourself and tamp down the anxiety. And see if you can get Imodium, tums, pepto or whatever you need — even if you have to pay some ridiculous price to get to a pharmacy — paying $100 for a cab or delivery service will be worth it!

+1 Do whatever you can to get yourself some relief. Sorry this is happening.

+1 Plus being in an airplane with 200+ people breathing the same air.

What country are you in? I have found pharmacies in Europe can be very helpful - the pharmacist will talk with you and maybe they can give you an Rx right on the spot. Won’t help with the anxiety, but maybe can get you some symptom relief.

I’m a teacher that doesn’t mask at school, but I masked on my recent flights because I didn’t want to mess up my vacation. Totally worth it, imo!

Sorry. It can happen. Hopefully it won’t happen on your next vacay.

I remember laying with her in shade on a beach and thinking about how it sucked, but then thinking about how parents on the other side of the world are pushing their babies off beach’s in rubber boats to escape war, and that put it in some perspective for me.

You just had to go there, didn't you?

Seriously. People like this are so annoying. It is normal and reasonable for OP to be upset about sickness ruining a vacation.

And to all the potential brightsiders, always remember that there is someone out there who is being more mopey about something even more minor. Go find the most self-pitying one and do your schtick at them instead. They need it more!

Remember, it has to be the absolute worst example or you're not allowed to do it. Those are the terms you chose.

Instacart yourself some Pepcid and some covid tests.

I think sometimes on vacation we feel pressure to have a FANTASTIC time. Especially if it's expensive. It's weird, I can afford to take expensive vacations but sometimes they stress me out because I know how much they cost. Whereas right now I am sitting in a cheapish rental house and am like, whatever, it's raining but I will just sit and watch CNN about Walz.

Give yourself permission to rest and have a mediocre time.

Reflux? Isn’t that a pretty easily solved problem? Find a pharmacy and buy some tums or something similar and see if it helps. Feel better and next pack your own traveling pharmacy with tums, Imodium, pepto, Advil, sleeping tablets and whatever else you might need.

Wear kn95/n95 on the plane and in the airport. Also carry masks in your pockets and put them on inside once you are at your destination.

I will never understand people who risk spending their expensive vacation with covid rather than mask on the plane.
