Some might call it petty, like you.

Others might think [name] former employee has low morals. Would not off hand informally refer her anywhere.

Someone has low morals for wanting to use their time off? Huh??

Yes. When the leave you are taking is sick leave and you aren’t sick.

This should not be so hard to understand.

Of course - do it! You only have one life. Fake a week of Covid.

Wow, lotta corporate bootlickers here.

Take the time OP. Don't forget, mental health is health! If you need a mental health day, that's a sick day.

Not according to the sick leave policy at any employer where I have worked. It might be usable for, say, an appointment with a therapist, but it is normally supposed to be used only for days when one is actually (physically) ill. Check your company's policy before doing something like this.

As for vacation time, employers are required to pay the cash value of this when an employee departs in most states. Check with yours. Of course, there is nothing wrong with taking the time as actual vacation if you would prefer that to the cash.

Yes, yes - OF course!

I suppose you are going to want to approve whether I'm ill or not....?

Go to name caller when you don't like an opposing view point. Grow up.

Lots of low ethics folks on this string I see.

If you work for sh***y employers then you get sh***y policies. Mental health is health is a strong undercurrent of every job I've had. Unless the policy says "physically ill" then it seems fair game.

It's not "name calling", it's a definition, and several pps fit it to a tee. Perhaps you should grow up if you think using time off is considered a negative attribute in an employee.

That's just a dopey thing to say. Has nothing to do with 'ethics' - these are all strictly business decisions. You can expect the company to make their decisions based on what's best for the company and employees should mind their bottom line as well.

Will it be weird to take all my CC vacation days and suck days before I resign?

What do you all think?

Right now I am taking all vacation days which can't be paid for when leaving. And worry taking sick days might put a bad taste in leadership.

Check the company policy and definition of sick leave. My employer separates vacation from "sick/personal" time, so most people use that first.
Don't forget floating holidays if you have them.

I learned this lesson 15 years ago with a previous company and now do not allow my sick leave to accrue above 2 or 3 days at a time. My current company allows us to bank up to 2x our annual in vacation but that will be paid out if/when you leave. Any sick accrued is "left on the table" so as such, I bleed it off, little by little, so as to not ever be in the situation as OP.

This is kind of what my old boss did/would suggest too. We got 10 sick days per year, and every month save july/aug he'd book a day off to use it up. I cant recall if it accrued or if it was dumped in Jan, but either way we couldnt take it with us. May as well use it.

Only a handful of states require the payout. Check your handbook for your company’s policies. My previous employer had a policy to not payout unless required by state law. I lost 8 vacation days pay when I left my last employer.

Sick is a vague concept. I have no problem with people using a sick day when they don’t feel great because they didn’t sleep well, are sick of the job stress, or whatever. Who cares? They need the rest. That said, I would never claim a sick day and then go out skiing or something like that.
