This is true in life!!!

OP: did you think your kid would be hanging with the rich kids?

Why is this even a surprise?

Why is this forum so lame?

I'm a bit relieved to hear that kids from your public school are getting into Princeton, Duke, etc, even if they are legacies.

I don't know where my kids will fit in. They are public school, legacy, but not white. It is debatable if we are rich - probably not according to dcurbanmom standards.

Harvard has a few old school upper crust fraternities (Final Clubs) and a regular Jewish frat or two (AEPi, not all Jews are in it). These are non residential .
That's a quarter of the school.
Harvard is diverse in its special way. They do get partial randomized by dorm assignments. Almost everyone at Harvard lives in the dorms..

So called 'connections' is BS for the most part for normal middle class folks.

This is DC's experience at Bowdoin. All her friends are solidly middle class down to low income, but there's whole swaths of CEO daughters and trust fund kids who latch to each other throughout the four years and are very careful with who they get close with. There's also clear class distinction between those who went to Philips Academies and Grotons, so you really go to these places to take the resources from the institution, unless you're wealthy and your friend, whose dad is CEO of Boeing, can get you an in.

Not true in my experience at an Ivy.

Do you expect them to hang with the first gen kids who are there just trying to get a good education and get out or the poor kids on scholarship? This is how the world works. It won't be any different when they get jobs either.

When was the last time you got laid?

All three are legacies.

I don’t find this at all surprising as kids from similar backgrounds tend to hang together but it’s also so disappointing and telling about those schools.

FWIW, my son goes to a big public and yes, his friends are mostly white but not mostly legacies or athletes.

FYI - Duke is not in the Ivy League.

Same at most high schools, its either under privileged or over privileged who go to Ivies, not middle class studious ones.

It’s a quiet time of year for college admissions.

All colleges are like this.

This was not me or DC's experience at our ivies.

There is no way someone with grammar this bad went to an Ivy.

It's not a terrible sentence. Maybe, you're just uptight.

Mine at an ivy hangs out with a coed academic group (engineering) where they are the only caucasian, and a different club arts group where they are one of only 2. The rest of the friends are an amazing mix of 3 other ethnicities including internationals. Mixing happens, understanding different cultures happens, for the students who want that to happen. Ivies are more diverse than they have ever been, with less than 50% caucasian. Those who only hang out with the same as themselves are missing the point of these diverse schools

100% false. I have a full pay kid at Duke. They’re friends with kids who are fgli and lots of kids on financial aid, and some insanely uber-wealthy people(most of those try to hide it, to be fair).
