A Special Request

Finally, please propose a name for the forum.

Thank you so much! I will get back to you about a proposed name, but in the meantime think of us as the Urban Baby Refugees.

Let's say "Urban Baby Refugees" is it. We look forward to your ultimate decision and thank you for your consideration and quick response.

I am wiling to give this a try. I only create new forums on the weekends so this will have to wait until Saturday and then will be dependent upon whatever else I have to do. Between now and then, create your topics in the NYC forum even if they are off-topic for that forum. When I set up the new forum, I will move them and then the new forum will not start out empty.

Many thanks to you, Jeff---have a great day!

I am very excited to participate in this new forum, and to learn what "very average NYC salaries" are.

New poster here. I’ve tried posting in the regular forums on non NYC specific questions but it just doesn’t work.
Example, very average NYC incomes are considered astronomical by DC standards and so everyone thinks you’re humble bragging while you’re really just asking a real question about real choices that only New Yorkers get given the insane COL here.

If you want actual answers on this site you need to give details, otherwise nobody knows any background and the trolls come on heavy and fast. You could always preface your financial questions with I live in NYC- the average income is X, the average 2 bedroom apartment 700 sf costs X-Y. Then ask your question.

Lots of people on here from many different places, just give more background so people have a reference point and can be more helpful. Also if you ask a question then remain engaged long enough to answer additional questions/provide more detail and you’ll get better answers more aligned with what you’re looking for.

If its the people who used to post on YouBeMom, the posters in the special needs group there were incredibly kind and helpful. Just saying.

Good, the SN forum always use more good people. One place crowd sourcing can actually be quite useful.

The Kids with SN forum here is usually helpful as well. Though sometimes a troll wanders in -usually from Recent Topics - and we either police it or we ask the mod to step in and he is very responsive. We try to keep it helpful and realistic.

Seconding the suggestion to provide context to your posts in other forums. People post here from all over the country.

Also, you will get people on the new forum who are not from your group, esp of it’s included on Recent Topics so adjust your expectations accordingly.

Happy posting!

You’ll love the SN forum here then, minimal trolling, though moderate snarkiness, still very useful and some quite knowledgeable people weigh in from time to time.

Thanks very much Jeff and the person with the original request.
I've been very happy here since UB shut down but will be very happy to have an additional place to find you all.
