| I was never afraid of t-storms as a kid. My kids aren't scared of them either. |
| I was never scared of thunderstorms and have fond memories of intense summer storms rolling in while at the community pool and we'd race home to have dinner picnics on the living room floor where we could see the storm (we lived in a row house so not a ton of windows). |
| I’ve never seen The Sound of Music and never been scared of thunderstorms. I’m 48. |
Same. Growing up only our dog was afraid of them. |
Quicksand has not even been a minor plot point in my adult life but I, too, spent a decent amount of time planning quicksand escapes just in case. My child is moderately afraid of thunderstorms because we have moved somewhere where they're extremely rare. I didn't mind a friendly summer storm but spring was a terrifying time for me as a kid- I grew up in tornado alley and we had weekly tornado alarm testing and monthly drills. So the right kind of thunderstorm was terrifying. Tornado watches and warnings were much more vague so we would go to the cellar (with our dolls and stuffed animals and pillows and blankets) more often and for longer than people do now. I blame it all on the beginning of Wizard of Oz. |
I don't get the connection between The Sound of Music and thunderstorms. |
| A new generation of kids that didn’t grow up watching Poltergeist! |

I had one kid that was TERRIFIED of thunder, even when it happened during the day. She just hated it. She still doesn't love it, but I wouldn't call her terrified. If I notice a particularly loud storm while we sleep I'll go check on her and she is always awake under her covers.
My other kid has some minor fear, but 95% of the time sleeps through any thunder no matter how loud. So it can vary. |
The scene where she sings "My Favorite Things" is when all the children come into her room scared during a huge thunderstorm. |
