Success with Natural Cycle IVF

This was either for 2009 or so far in 2010, I believe the website has much older info.

Yesterday was cycle day 1 again, and I just could not bring myself to call in for a new cycle... I feel so defeated. Please keep stories coming... need encouragement to try again...

Hugs to you! It's so hard to have a loss, and you'll know when you're ready to try again. In the meantime, be good to yourself in every way you can.

For what it's worth, Days 1-3 of the cycle are the absolute worst for me each time. But by day 4, I'm feeling mildly hopeful again, and by day 7 I'm downright optimistic and ready to go. So maybe it's worth jumping in again this cycle in the hopes that you're emotions will be there by trigger time. Of course, there's nothing wrong with taking a month off either. Whatever feels right to you!

Either way, I wish you the best. I know how tough the emotional part of this process can be!!

P.S. I'm the OP of this thread. We're now a few days away from our first embryo transfer via NCIVF. Fingers crossed for us all.

Oops. I lied. I'm not the OP -- wrong thread!

I'm a big fan of natural cycle IVF, and Dominion. I have to admit, however, that I do find some of their statistics to be misleading. Well, not their stats, but their summaries of them. I read their site, and they say that most women (who have success) will succeed within the first 2 or 3 cycles. This makes someone think that they can give it 3 shots, and they are likely to have success. However, if you read into it, it is really only addressing the women who have succeeded, and ignoring the women who did not. I guess the "take away" would be: If you don't succeed in your first 3 tries, you probably won't. Second, it is referring to 3 cycles that MAKE IT TO TRANSFER. They aren't counting all of the cycles that were canceled for various reasons. I really like the docs over there, so I'm unhappy when I see things like this that seem like "marketing". I know that it's a business, but it doesn't seem like it for us. We're trusting them to help us build a family, and don't want a "hard sell".

Those "out of 3 tries" stats also don't include patients who were advised (or told) that they should not continue with natural cycle (or a stimulated cycle) after their first cycle went badly.

I was leery of their stats and marketing, but I was also one of the least likely to succeed (high FSH) and my DH and I have a health DD from Natural cycle IVF so it's hard to interpret the stats, basically we all wan to know what will work for us.

Anyone who interprets the statistics or the "marketing" statements to come to conclusion bolded above obviously hasn't thought things through carefully. And I'd be surprised if there are many people in that category who sign on for NCIVF at Dominion, in part because consumers of ART tend to -- and need to -- be sophisticated about understanding the statistics and success rates, add in part because the Dominion doctors are careful to explain the odds/risks in more depth one-one-one during the initial consult. (At least Dr. G. was when meeting with us.)

Ultimately, we came away with all the same "take aways" that you did. And we chose to give NCIVF a try because of the lower cost and the minimal drugs, even given the lower success rates. No gripes here about their marketing or presentation of statistics. We didn't find them misleading or confusing at all.

PP I agree, Dr Gordon did not OVER sell natural cycle at all, he explained all the options very well, in the end we went for NC and it worked the second round. He is by far the best RE in this area, and I have seen a few!

I just started my IF journey and we are considering natural cycle vs regular IVF, how do you decide??

It helped me to talk at length with people who had been through it. A handful did regular IVF and one did NCIVF. Everyone was very generous and open in sharing the rough spots and challenges along the way.

Ultimately, I had a strong preference for NCIVF, at least for a few cycles. I knew the success rates are quite a bit lower, but I was eager to keep the drugs to a minimum, if possible. And because the cost is so much lower, we could afford to do some extra cycles, if needed. (We don't have insurance coverage for anything other than the diagnostics and testing.)

I also recommend the book, "A Few Good Eggs." It doesn't talk about NCIVF, but I thought it was very helpful in preparing for the next stage of the journey.

Good luck!

My Dh and I are believers in natural cycle IVF since we both had many strikes against us, endometriosis and poor responder on my part and my Dh has decreased motility and morphology. We did 5 stimulated cycles before going to Dominion and we got our first + ever after our first cycle of natural cycle IVF, unfortunately we m/c'd at 8 wks but we got further than any other treatment. We are going to try again after my next period.

We are considering going to Dominion, I have a history of endometriosis and I'm concerned that stimulated IVF will just make my symptoms worse. I just had a laporascopy that cleared up many of the adhesions, and my current RE says natural cycle IVF is a waste of time, frankly his disparaging remarks about it have made me more curious that we need to at least learn more about this option.

I have stage IV endo and natural cycle IVF worked for me, after many failed IUI cycles.

I'm the poster that had an initial beta of 97, yesterday's results were 233 which the nurse told me was good and I have to have another on Monday, still feel like we are holding our breath to see if this really worked.
