I’ve had hit or miss luck with that list. NAMS still likes to say it’s all in your head and you just need therapy bc midlife is stressful and no mental symptoms are related. There are docs in that list that think it’s only hot flashes and women with no periods at all that need treatment.

Personally I think younger docs with more recent training are the best bet.

I also specifically chose a doctor off NAMS and she was not great. I ended up using my GP for my HRT.

Ugh that is super disappointing. I was hoping it would connect me with someone good!

In general, it's not covered because it's not considered a real medical condition. I joke not.

My HRT is covered by Carefirst, it’s fda approved and bioidentical estradiol and progesterone.

I adore Nazaneen Homaifar of INOVA OBYGN in Mclean. (most insurances accepted. She was current with the latest research, explained my options and the pros and cons as well as her suggestion but was open to discussing and choosing different options)

OP here. I wound up going online for the HRT after getting frustrated locally. Mentioned it to my PCP (an DO) and asked if he could manage it once I’m through the initial 3-month supply, and he’s happy to do that as well as any associated testing that might come up down the road. Hopefully insurance will cover it this way!

I also went online with MIDI health after trying to get someone near Arlington and not succeeding. I loved the experience and doing video appointments with a specialist was fantastic. I feel soo much better since starting hrt, it’s life changing and has addressed so many issues that I nor my doctors connected to menopause ( ie anxiety, sleep, faint pain, etc)

My Capital Women's care GYN does this for me.

I do, five stars. I did/do not have complex issues however.

This! Mainly due to schedules, I just saw a younger doctor at the OB/GYN practice I've been going to for awhile (Amanda Paternostro at Physicians and Midwives), and she actually took my symptoms seriously and recommended HRT before I could bring it up. The older providers I had seen the last few years blew them off. On day 2....

Lucky you! I saw Sarah Gray at P&M about a year ago and she basically shut me down (I'm mid 50s and haven't had a period in 4 years). It was SO discouraging, especially since P&M delivered all my kids.

I then went to https://menopause.org/ (thank you DCUM) and found a different provider. The experience couldn't have been more different. I've been on HRT for about 10 months and it's been life changing - and insurance covers it!

If you are still here, can you explain? I'm switching to a practice that some people talked about on reddit as having 3 doctors who are good for peri/meno. At the same time, a friend who goes there said a nurse practitioner blew her off when she talked about her symptoms.

My sleep is wrecked and I'm dealing with a bunch of physical symptoms. I will probably burst into tears if someone doesn't take this seriously, so I'm trying to prepare for the next step just in case.

And HRT isn't covered by insurance? How much are people paying for it? I'm scared!

22:43 here. It WILL be covered by insurance if you find the right provider.
