Do A meet families ever take vacation during summer swim season?

We have not missed an A meet since 2013.

This is largely because of club schedule though. Kids are training and competing through July. At some point, it's habit. We generally go to the same beach, the same week every year.

My kids have swum in A meets for the past 9 years and we only missed 1 A meet the very first year/before we knew our kid would make A meets. Now they would be very angry if we missed.

Why do top divisions and top swimmers not want to miss A meet once or twice? Are they afraid of losing their spots or potentially improving their times

No, they just really love summer swim, being part of the team, competing and the excitement of A meets. I also think many don't want to let their relays down.

This - the only times my kids have done A meets is when the fast kids go away for July 4.

And that’s how I know one A meet a year is the max number for my family. I don’t really like them.

Probably because unlike winter swim, in summer swim, your team can win! Your team can pull out a relay win in the last event (in MCSL). It's *fun* and if you win your division in MCSL you get a trophy, and you can think you were part of the team that helped win that trophy.

We are in a lower division but tons of kids were on vacation week 1. That will probably be my kid's only A meet this year

Same.
We also prefer going on vacation at the end of summer rather beginning so it works out. We leave Sunday after all stars.

IME it’s more common with the younger groups as well- less likely that families have gotten the memo, so to speak, or knew their kids would qualify for A meets to begin with. I thought my oldest would exclusively be swimming B meets and then his first summer he ended up qualifying for A meets in one stroke. We already had travel plans one weekend and kept them. And we weren’t the only ones in the 8 and unders who had to occasionally miss.

My kids do camps or other things that conflict but we are in the second half of the mcsl alphabet.

We are in D1 of NVSL and going on vacation this weekend. It’s the weekend that works for our family. My kids do winter swim and summer swim is just for fun. If there is something more fun, like an extended family trip, then we go on the trip.

This describes my kid, as well. She’s probably done with A meets for the season, unless someone is out unexpectedly (and even then it depends on the events they would have been swimming). But she got two A meets this season, which is more than I expected given the kids who moved up into the age group this year.

At our pool, some do and some don't. We never did but we decided that we probably will next year. Even though it's a short season, it gets very tiring with so many meets packed close together. A mid-season break will probably help recharge the whole family's batteries.

Very uncommon on our team (A-D in MCSL the past few years)

Not often, but it happens for special occasions. At least at NVSL, once you have an A meet swimmer, kiddos start to complain if they miss meets. We have often left for vacation immediately after divisionals.

Depends on where you are.
