Not with a 3.4. Assume she gets that up to a 3.6+?? Otherwise she’s presumably in the bottom 1/2 of the class which doesn’t seem to be what OP is saying? Applying in August ED to Wake is key — we have seen several 3.5uw get in then….its rolling ED there…..Obv full pay from rigorous private. Also it depends on the class/cohort. This is all so school dependent. |
Same with Emory on freshman year… |
This. It is highly unlikely those grades would get a child into schools like Wake or Tufts, unless grades go up from now onward, high sat/act, and high rigor. |
Tufts? Ha ha ha. Never with those grades. My DD was waitlisted with one B plus over four years. IB Diploma. Leadership, great internships. And waitlisted Wake. |
What a world. Need to medicate for B’s. Poor kids. |
But I’m guessing public school in RD? Right? If so, apples to oranges. This is an ED play from private. The wake ED kids from two privates are typically aiming much higher than they should be (and more often than not successful). Same with Tulane (3.4 ED - admitted) from private. Stats like this would likely require strategic ED bc RD won’t happen. |
Emory isn’t even T20 |
Ah no. Top very rigorous private. Wake was probably yield protection. Going to top UC school. Accepted to Wash U regular and others TO. It’s a crap shoot for top achievers. This kid is not likely to be top. Don’t stress her out. |
Ewww. Does she hate you already, OP, or are you still working towards that? |
Why does she need to go to T20 us the question? Your ego? |
Np. Congrats! WashU RD is amazing….and TO?!? Any pointy interests or tips? |
That PP is very concerned with “academic coding.” |

| She's in 9th grade. It's fine as long as the trend is ever upward from here. But maybe lower the college expectation from T20 and be cool with that. Kids at high performing schools have so much pressure as it is. |
It's not fine. If she has a 3.4 she's going to need a perfect 4.0 the next two years to get to a 3.8. A 3.8 is needed for a top20 outside of maybe U Chicago. I have scrutinized Scoir for a Big3. The line in the sand (even ED) is about 3.8. Some DCUM posters are seriously out to lunch or haven't had a senior in years. |
