European Parliament Elections Going Far Right

Anonymous
European turning right is because of large scale immigration. The progressive left refuses to acknowledge it. But even young voters readily see the connection between the disintegration of the social welfare state and massive abuses by recent migrants, as well as the cultural problems posed by conservative Muslims in European countries.

French person here.

Far-right populism is NOT just a US phenomenon. You have Trump, we have Bardella/Le Pen, and there are so many others in every single European country, with popular support, money from Putin, and help from Russian online disinformation. However Russia is not to blame for the inception of all these movements. It just magnifies what's already there: discontent in the face of the rapidly changing socio-cultural landscape and recent pandemic-triggered inflation.

Please remember that during his Presidency, Bannon traveled to Europe and met with dozens of far-right eminences in various countries. They have common goals.

French expats voted yesterday in their respective Embassies. My mother voted this morning in Paris. Next to her in line was a young lady who, when instructed to pick at least two voting slips (so that no one knows who anyone votes for), picked up two Bardella slips.

The French presidential election is next year. I fear Marine Le Pen will have her long-awaited win. Macron is term-limited. He's been a great President. He's done everything he could to fend off the extremes (both right and left), including picking right-wing Prime Ministers and trying to align his centrist party a little more to the right to keep the far-right away from power.

Sigh. It's not looking good, and that's really sad.

Conservatives lead by 18 over the Liberals. It’s been 658 straight days that the Conservatives have led the Liberals in Abacus Data polling.
If an election were held today, 42% of committed voters would vote Conservatives with the Liberals at 24%, the NDP at 18% and the Greens at 4%. The BQ is at 34% in Quebec.
Since our last survey, the Conservatives are up 1, the Liberals are unchanged, and the NDP is down 1. Since the beginning of the year, we have seen stability in vote intentions with the Conservatives consistently in the low 40s and the Liberals stuck in the low to mid 20s.

This is because Canadian Liberals have gone far off into the deep end.

Totally agree. The liberals in the US have done the same. Insane priorities.

Who are the insane liberals in the US? Schumer? Biden? Jeffries?

Because the progressive left is not in charge and none of their policies are permeating right now.

Just see all the huge pro-Hamas marches. People at home do NOT want that. There's a lot of quiet discontent and fear which is based on the reality of Islamic radicals taking over, a reality many parties flat out deny. As the French poster said, Macron has actually done a good job veering to the right a bit, but it hasn't been enough. And it doesn't help that the Le Pens, who will always be tainted due to Jean-Marie Le Pen, have a new figure head who is a young man with immigrant parents.

In both Europe and Canada, the swing to the right - particularly among the young - is due primarily to unchecked immigration and high housing costs. In Canada, it's uneducated Indians, mostly from Punjab. In Europe, it's Arabs, Pakistanis, Afghans, and some from sub-Sahara Africa. None of these uneducated immigrants have any interest in assimilating. They are usually responsible for most of the crime and many don't work and just live off of benefits. And they've really increased the cost of rent in many communities. People have had enough and are voting accordingly. It has nothing to do with health care or education or trans whatever. It is 100 percent a reaction to the uneducated immigrants that have been flooding into Europe and Canada in recent years.

And, Americans care about unchecked immigration as well......
These are not all Republicans wanting to deport illegal immigrants.

I guess it is universal to blame liberals for the extremism of the far right.

No one is buying what the left is selling. Choices have to be made.

This. It is supply and demand. No one cares anymore about abortion, LGBTQ, global warming when you need to feed your children and to make sure no one kills you or rapes you on your way to and from work.

LOL, if women are not able to manage their bodies, nothing else really matters. But sure, go on with this.

OP, I have family in Europe too and am watching closely.

BREAKING:
French President Emanuel Macron said Sunday he was dissolving the National Assembly and calling a snap legislative election after his party suffered a heavy defeat in elections for the European Parliament.

In an address to the nation from the Elysee presidential palace, Macron said: “I’ve decided to give you back the choice of our parliamentary future through the vote. I am therefore dissolving the National Assembly.” The vote will take place in two rounds on June 30 and July 7, he said.

The move comes as first projected results from France on Sunday put the far-right National Rally party well ahead in the European Union’s parliamentary election, defeating Macron’s pro-European centrists, according to French opinion poll institutes.

OP here. Same. I’m watching this really closely. I don’t think people in the US understand what a big deal this is.

Just a precursor for what will happen in the US in November.

This is what democrats here are loath to understand. They have overplayed their hand with trans rights, abortion all day every day and twice on Sunday and a country being overrun with illegal aliens.

Head on over to the "Why 30-40 year old are Republicans" to see it happening in real time.

Women are concerned about being erased, it especially pronounced and violent in the UK with trans activist and the loss of free speech. Making it a crime to say that one cannot change their sex! Anyone paying attention with Biden's EO that not using someone's made up pronouns is now illegal in the workforce. Completely ruining Title IX by getting rid of sex segregated spaces and protections.

Illegal aliens changing entire cities in a mere 3.5 years. Groceries are still 17-20% high then back in 2020.

But democrats are just tut-tutting us saying it is all in our head you silly girl. Crowing that this is best economy/presidency/no crime period ever!

Similar scenarios are playing out across the pond and people are pissed.

Per the BBC, many voters in Europe are attracted by the outspokenness of parties on the far-right and there's tangible frustration that traditional politicians don't appear to have clear answers in 3 key areas of life: (i) Issues linked to identity - a fear of open borders and an erosion of national identity and traditional values; (ii) Economics - a rejection of globalization and resentment that children and grandchildren aren't assured a better future; and (iii) Social justice - a feeling that national governments are not in control of the rules that govern the lives of citizens.

Just read an article that said Germany "fell" to the far right because CDU/CSU got most of the votes. Ridiculous. CDU/CSU is center right at best and has been left on border issues. Only 20% voted for AfD. Get a grip. Also AfD seems fine.

Needing abortion isn't a daily concern. For most of us.

This is a huge global over generalization. People with views like you are very damaging and dangerous.
